i went to a doctor to have a physical. as the doc checked me out and stuff, he asked if i was sexually active and if i was tested for HIV, etc.. i told him no because i know i have no diseases.. then he asked me who do i prefer women or guys.. i'm like WTF does that have to do with anything?? he said because of "transmitted diseases" which didn't make sense to me as you can get diseases from both male and female during any kind of sexual activity.. i answered him anyway and said "both". after i told him that, he said so "bisexual?" i said "Uh yeah.."

the odd thing about the whole thing is he was smirking as he was talking to me with a sort-of grin-like smile.. i felt awkward the whole time, not because of who i am, but because i was unsure why he was asking these questions..

he was good looking and very young.. i'd say he was about 35yrs old.

    what you think about this?

Even when you give blood they will ask men if they have been sexually active with any men. They ask women if they have been sexually active with men who have been with other men. I assume it's because it would be easier to contract AIDS during anal intercourse. But I don't understand that, since straight sex can include anal intercourse. It's just something that they ask, it's still mostly believed that AIDS is a gay illness.

If it wasnt for the smirk then I would assume his intentions were purely routine

The smirk could have been perseived as something other than what it was because of the uncomfortable situation. Or maybe the Dr. has terrible bedside manner. If you are uncomfortable with him I would suggest a Dr. change.

i'd guess the smirk was probably in response to your reaction.

i was very serious the whole time. i had a straight face and was surprised at his constant grins, that's what made me feel awkward not the question he asked. i had a several checkups prior, but never any questions in the format he gave..

Maybe the doc's smirk was his attempt to act ok about a topic he was uncomfortable with...or maybe he's just a weird bastard. I would have told him I did not want that information entered in my medical records. Insurance could decide you're too high risk for coverage or some fool that doesn't need that knowledge could end up with it.
