I would say yes. I do not own a cell phone, nor do I wish to. However, when I see some idiot with an obnoxious ringtone, all I can assume is that they want to be self-important and draw attention to themselves. The purpose of a phone "ringing" is to alert you that someone is trying to get ahold of you. Why would anyone need, or even want, to hear music when they can just put it on vibrate like most relatively intelligent people who aren't trying to prove anything?

I have the classic 70's tv show batman ringtone. lol
I also have the classic super mario bros. theme, the pink panther, the doom song from Invader Zim, and sweet transvestite from the rocky horror picture show as my ringtones. Certain contacts have special ringtones. Everyone else gets the standard ringtone.
Its neat, I dont have to look to see who's calling.

For those ringtones you pay for on TV don't you have to pay like $2 each time someone calls you??

Mayhaps this is only in Australia.

I have a song ringtone so it doesn't wake me up.

I don't want my phone to wake me up during the wrong part of my sleep cycle and make me have a seizure, it seemed important.

    you know.

I don't bother paying for ringtones.. nowadays you can just use a MP3, it's a helluva lot cheaper :D

Or alternatively, 'ring ring' seems to cover it. What else do you need a phone to do?

So in other words, both yes and no.

I used the word "downloaded" but what I really meant was choosing for your phone to play a song instead of ring (whether you pay for it or not, it's downloaded to your phone, isnt it)

Why would you pay for it? My phone is almost four years old, and even I've got mp3s on there.

For the record, I have Sweet child of mine as ringtone/wakeup call, and if you think that makes me a tool, well, then your opinion is invalid.

I think the tool-factor depends no the chosen song.

    I have Stewie Griffin

    "Mom...Mom...Mom...Mommy...Mommy..."

I'm not trying to be self-important, I like it being able to have options. As a bonus, you know immediately that it's your phone, not the guy next to you.

I have a cell phone so that I can leave my house. I have a child with special needs, and I need to be able to be reached at all times. Before the cell, I just stayed home all day, and it was hard on me.

I dont think so. Ive paid for them in the past. Now I always just have it on vibrate mode because I dont like it to make much sound.

I buy the minimum amount of minutes and never use them all up, so I buy stuff with them when they are about to expire, rather than waste them.

Depends on the song, "tits and ass man" has become pretty popular since that ad.

I think buying ring tones excessively is a toolish thing to do.

When you buy 3 or 4 a week, you're doing too much. Whenever I would get a new phone, I'd download about 4. Total. One for my parents, job, friends, and no ID numbers. Typically that was it. But it was merely to identify different callers.
