ALL employees are idiots. this is the attitude that makes all employees idiots. nobody gives a damn about most things, but that's life. what the fuck makes you so special you should be paid for NOT working? i really fucking hope you have your own employees someday, and they rob the fuck out of you because they don't really care about doing what you're overpaying them to do.
But if they weren't idiots, they might join together, take all your contacts etc and set up as rivals. I'm sort of relieved when I know an employee is an idiot.
As Resso said, idiots are a little easier to manage, even if they can be frustrating. Never mind. Have a spliff and chill until you get back there.
He didn't say that. He says, he doesn't like to work unless it's something he gives a damn about. Who could blame him? Why should an employee give more importance to the frustrations of the managerial class than their own? Does that make them idiots or actually smarter than the boot-lickers? Who's wrong or right? Oh. And give me an example of an employee who's overpaid in relationship to an employer/owner or a middling manager/overseer or the security detail.
As far as security...I have 3 people. One mile or so of my Central American property is a River, the rest has a fence around it. There is no gate but there is a guard house as you drive in. My property in in the jungle. To get in a night you would have to walk through the surrounding jungle and get through a fence. My employees screwed up several orders. All were totally preventable. Now I have to clean up their mess and kiss some major ass on my customers. I legally can not hire a non resident to work for me. Also what is considered good pay in Central America is $300 US a month, plus I provide housing. We no have spiders. One morning I went in my room and picked up my coffee cup and there was a Trianchala in my cup. Spiders are nothing. The snakes are another matter. I like your style!
That is difficult becase they would have to be able to learn my business and I cannot hire Non Residents to work for me. Well I can it just makes things complicated. That would require initiative. They have none of that. Also you need money and banking services to do it. The marketing and payment systems are all done online. None of them own a computer or have online credit card processing. The business was designed to be run on a notebook computer. However I still can't grow a plant, harvest seed, package it and ship it on my computer.
I understand there are a number of people here who earn above minimum wage. Or do somewhere ranging from nicely and extremely nicely. As a forum overall, probably quite "unhippy-like" overall in terms of income/net worth? Some discuss money as a topic, others tend to avoid it even with their best friends( I think thats a West European thing generally?).
Learning a business is easy for an intelligent person. A supervisor does not need to know the entire nature of the business, but only learn the specifics of collecting the orders, shipping, and so on. You're still going to be the one who does all the marketing and costumer care. You could hire an alien resident. I'm sure that there are ways around it that would make it less complicated. I don't ever remember anyone having problems hiring foreigners when I lived in Honduras... but yet again, you live in a different country and might be under special circumstances. Yet, it's easy to bullshit and show how a foreign supervisor would be superior to a local one. (better knowledge of English, experience with plants, stuff like that)
I can actually hire non residents. It is just a lot more complicated. I have to pay them through an non Belize Corporation. That is not a big thing but it is a pain. Most Alien Residents do not want to work in the Jungle. It is 25 miles to the nearest decent sized store. You are correct in that it is not really hard to learn any business. However most people in the area of Belize that I live in do not have a high school education, nor do they want it. I have even offered to pay for school and they are not interested. If I can find the right plant expert or botanist I will hire them. But keep in mind Belize is absolutely beautiful but it is third world. It would drive most USA residents completely "bat shit mad" to live here more than a few months. I have put out feelers for the position. But they have to be experts. Everyone else I can hire locally for cheap (what I consider cheap) wages Also I am working now to fix the fuck ups and trying to prevent them.
I dunno, I could see a person who's really into plants loving life there. It's the jungle, it's beyond fascinating. Plus, you get all the peace and quiet in the world. It's not a bad life. You probably should invest in someone who's an expert. You say that you have all this money to throw around... that would be the only way to really avoid fuck-ups when you're gone.
It is harder than you think to find someone who would live here. But I am looking. You are right. It is absolutely beautiful here. The reason I have money is becase my business is based on third world wages. I am sure I will find the right person.
I love the 3rd world, what a fascinating place. ...and I hate it when dumb Americans think that you're exploiting the employees by paying them little when in reality they couldn't ever be more grateful. Anyhow, good luck with your search. I'm a greenhouse assistant grower, yet know nothing of exotic plants. Give me like... 4 years .
