So, i have occasionally shared a joint/bowl with friends off and one, once in a blue moon, and i have wondered how likely it would be to catch herpes from someone your smoking with if you share.

Im just concerned, and wonder if there are any ways around this.

Or should i just but my own piece, and split the green before we light up?

    Thanks

most people carry Herpes Simplex 1 virus, its extremely common. "Cold sores" are when it actually manifests; this is when you can catch it.

I get cold sores on my lips a few times a year, and when they occur, we use 'condoms' on our bubblers or joints, just any material you can use to place on the part that goes in your mouth. the person with lip shit uses the stuff regularly, and the person who doesn't want to catch it uses the mouth condom.

people can also feel when they have the sores forming, so just be sure you trust the person, my friends trust me and when i say my lips are fine, my lips are fine, and we don't use any precautions. if i feel even 1% chance of something happening there i let everyone know and it takes 2 seconds and a leaf to solve the problem.

you could use a chillum if you hold it in the way that your lips don't touch the pipe. Hold it between your first 2 fingers and make a fist.

or just hold a flame to the mouth part of the pipe for a second

I prefer the motto "If you have the herps, you don't get my purps."

man this is why i dont post in this forum

cold sores on lips = Herpes Simplex 1 Virus, not the 'herpes' of STD fame, which is Herpes Simplex 2.

It is only contagious when actually presenting with sores.

the majority of people have antibodies for HSV1, which means they have come in contact with it at some point.

Don't be jackoffs to your friends just because they have cold sores, it doesn't mean they are prostitutes, or gay, or dirty, or anything. odds are you have it too, you just have it subclinically.

I have a cold sore right now i think. :D

I always felt that herpes simplex 1 was as bad as herpes simplex 2.

Hence my concern for really catching something bad.

In my opinion, sharing a good smoke adds a nice vibe to shit. Pity it can be ruined with that damn virus.
