Dazed and Confused : High School Initiation

So my sister, her best friend Lauren and I are all sitting around and watching Dazed and Confused and they have the initiation rituals going down so I became curious.

What don't we have high school initiation anymore? And if you were initiated, how did it happen? What did you have to do?

Probably because most of them are a demeaning form of torture. Thats just a guess.

 

Those don't exist because they would lead to major lawsuits.

I'm kinda glad. I wouldn't want some idiots beating on my kids just because it's a "ritual".

 

Are you kidding me? I was hoping for initiation on the last day of 8th grade!

 

Because in some ways (not many) people are smarter and more sophisticated than they were in the 70s.

i didnt go to highschool back then, and the movie also sucks and isn't based much in reality as far as i'm aware. even if it is, it's boring and generally worthless.

we had no initiation or prejudice based on our status as 9th graders. so i dont know, but i'd think it would be some real pointless, retarded bullshit if half of the stuff in that movie applied to reality on a regular basis.

 

Well, yeah... I don't think that too many people who have good taste would argue with the fact that the movie pretty much sucks.

 

Yeah, I also thought Dazed and Confused was a stupid and pointless movie.

 

I am going to offer a different point of view and say that people are too apathetic, numb and disillusioned to actually want to go out and satisfy their sadistic urges now.

 

It's because most freshmen know their place these days.

 

It's fine to satisfy them, but not on other people against their will.

 

I don't think people care about that, just like they didn't care in the 70s. I just think nobody cares about anything. Its nice.

 

I think that people still care way too much.

 

Nooo, it was a timeless coming of age drama about the trials and tribulations of growing up in a rough and tumble time. It is historically significant in how it not only depicts the struggles that many youngsters face, but also the allegorical points which I will not waste on a cultural boob such as yourself.

lol, . Kidding. It was pretty bad, but had its moments.

 

Was the movie really that bad? Some of it is pretty hilarious, especially the part about the Abe Lincoln sex dream.

 

i didn't know there were every "high school initiations." i thought that in the movie they were initiating the first-year football players and cheerleaders, which does still happen, just not in the same way as in the movie.

personally, i wouldn't recommend it for any movie awards or anything, but it was entertaining enough to watch.
