Memeorial Day was set aside to honor the Men and Women who died in service to the nation. In a larger sense, Memeorial Day is about all the young men regardless of nationality who were drug into war because of conflicts usually started by old men. Some wanted to go to war to defend their Nation and it's beliefs, some felt a need to prove themselves in some way, others were simply drafted and pressed into service. This is not a political post, please don't construe it as that. It is simply a recognition of all those boys and men who fell victim to war. To fall victim to war doesn't just mean dying in battle, there are many who physically survive but are maimed either mentally or physically.

Today lets give a special thought to all those gay boys and men/women who were in wars whether by choice or draft. Many of us never told anyone we were gay. Some of us didn't even have words for our feelings. Many of us could not reconcile killing another kid like ourselves yet we were thust into that position. And many of us felt we had a duty that was greater than ourselves, felt we needed to serve in some way to honor each other.

Regardless of how a young Gay man or woman ends up in the service, Please give them some thought today. Find a bit of time to consider those lives who were cut short or harmed by the folly of War.

    Thanks, Steve

You may not support the war but you should always support the men and women in uniform

By giving them more thought than the straight servicemen are we not propagating the very unequality most of the GLBT community are fighting against? :D

I see it as remembering the folks that are never mentioned. Yeah, I see your point, but having known some of those guys from my own Army days I feel they deserve a bit more recognition in our own community. We weren't and aren't welcome there but we served anyway. :D

I'd agree in the case of conscripts. But people who sign up for the military do so knowing that they will be following orders regardless of whether they are just. I don't have a lot of sympathy for that. That has nothing to do with their sexuality, of course.
