Because calling the same thing something different is just a wedge used to divide people, and they want to be treated the same.

it's all apart of my wishful thinking to lock up 95% of the worlds population - not only to protect you from yourselves, but to also protect myself from the crazies

Fairly typical of weak minds--go from one extreme to the other--drugs ,drinking -a wild life in the extreme-(or whatever else to the extreme),then go to religion in the extreme.Religious people are so fuckin boring anyway, you'll never come to any agreement with her or be able to engage her in an objective discussion.Or any other person that has "THE ANSWER".We're not meant to know any answers about any of it anyway. It's all guess work.My 2 cents.

    Wishful thinking? No.

People used to be made slaves just because of their skin colour. Females were not able to go to university just because of their sex.

Now, human beings, ♀ + ♀, ♂ + ♂, are not able to get married just because of their sexual orientation.

Is it fair? Hell fucking no. But sadly, it's the way it is at the moment.

I got into a similar debate on the train (where all the interesting people live ). It began with her blaming our shit weather on our behaviour as human beings. I (as an agnostic) could see this from her point of view. She said the way we're behaving, the shit we're putting in our food, the pollution, etc, etc, is all to blame for why we were having shit weather. God was basically punishing us. I didn't agree with her, but if someone's against that kind of shit, it doesn't really matter why (to me).

And then she added... "And in [some state I can't remember] they're allowing gay marriages!"

I was like... "Eh.. Whaa?"

I asked her why she was against gay marraiges, and she said because it's "not natural". Because they can't have children naturally. Then she started to talk about AIDS.

Does this mean if we legalize same-sex marriages we're either going to die from under-population or AIDS?

I have no problem with people having an opinion. I like people having opinions, it makes the world a more interesting place :p

It's when those opinions change the way other people live their life.. That's the problem.

Gay marriage does little to hurt Christains'. Maybe their feelings, but that's it.

Not allowing gay people to get married hurts those who want to get married.

Why should they be treated any different 'cos they have the same genitalia?

    You're welcome sweet'art I see your point :)

The thing some people who have posted on this forum don't get...

This is not like we're talking about our favourite sports team. "Go All Blacks!" "Go Wallabies!".

These are people's lives. You might think it's not a big deal to get married, or that civil unions are the same as marriage. But same sex couples should have just as many rights as male-female couples.*

What we, as people, think as a collective does and will have an affect on how the world is run.

me and my fella arnt married, but he's still my hubby and we have a complete and unconditional love for each other, but (at least for now) my personal preference is not to get married.........hes in the military and it would be one hell of a lot easier if we were, we would get a house dirt cheap, no food costs etc, it would all be paid for. but we arn't so we pay out shit loads more money each other but my reason for getting married will never be to get benefits and a cheaper lifestyle. it will be because im ready to have that amount of commitmant, or i feel i need it. right now we are fine as we are.

but as to your arguement. the simple answer is don't argue with the religious. no good will come of it.

Apart from religious and traditional reasons, can anyone see any reason for two people of the same sex to not be able to get married?

Opel, that is quite a superficial answer...

I get that "fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity" and etc.. But this is fighting for rights.

how is arguing with some religious person going to change rights for gays??....unless you are giving a point to someone whos in a position to change things, its a futile battle, that noones ever going to win and will just end up with both partys being pissed off with each other. and arguing for the sake of it just seems kinda pointless to me.

i dont have a problem with gays getting married, it makes no odds to me. i have stronger feelings about other issues, but i dont waste my breath arguing with another 'regular joe' whos views are directly opposed to mine, coz it would be a waste of my time. debate is fine and i enjoy that, but i'm just saying the OP shouldn't get to het up about it.

so i don't think my answer was superficial. i'm sorry if you do.

Saying that there's no point in arguing about it...

I see it as exactly the same type of thing as womens or blacks rights. I'm sure the people in power didn't wake up one day and say, "Oh. I think we should change the laws today". It is a long process and it takes group effort.

The original point of this thread was gay marraiges.

I'm not against religious people, and I understand not all religious people are against gay marraiges.

But for people like the lady I met on the train, and the lady the poster of this thread met online, it is really sad. I'm all for people having opinions.

But, honestly. No right to get married?

    Wtf.

but it's the ladys religion. a lot of there ideas can be a bit out dated but it's what they believe, they arn't bad people, its just what they think there God wants of them.

and i'm just saying arguing with one other person about an issue, is not a 'group effort' to get rights for gays. go and hold a placard outside some politicians house with a load of other people.....thats a group effort and at least is near to the people who can change stuff, you never know they may even look out there window to see what all the fuss is about.

Is the point you're trying to make that there is no point in talking to religious people about gay people?

Or, is the point you're trying to make that we should all just tollerate other people's opinions and ideas?
