I've kayaked for a few years. It can be pretty exciting in the whitewater, especially when you learn a roll. I would recommend wavesport kayaks.

The most important consideration in buying a kayak is to get one without any holes in :piggy:

    Both of you cant swim?

Kick your legs and windmill your arms.

    BAM! you can swim now.

    i've kayaked before... multiple times.

it seems like a really good idea at the time, but i've never really enjoyed it. especially if you're going against the current :S

it's a really good work out though. they have some that have like foot-pedals too for when your arms get tired :p.
