hey guys i backcombed one of my friends recently. it was like 3 days ago. by now he wants to know when and how to wash his hair. hes got dr bronners shampoo and thats fine. he had a question that i wasnt sure about - would it be beneficial for him to wear a legging over his dreads while he washes so that they wont come undone as easily? i didnt really have a problem with washing my hair in the beginning. maybe some of you did. let me know what you guys think/suggest

I say wait about 5 days or a week. mine all fell out when I washed em, which I didn't mind because they look really natural now... but if you don't want to lose your backcombing I guess wait longer.

I agree with Pat. Every time I wash my hair it feels like it loosens up a bit. I have no clue on the technique because I just get in there and scrub like hell then rinse.

my friend washed hers straight after.
I think it did her well.. when she was done her hair was tacky and I believe it helped the knots find there home.

re-backcombing is not needed. Neither is wax

I always say wash whenever you feel your hair needs washing, just as if it was still only hair, which it is :)

I washed mine a week after backcombing and nothing came undone. I wash every saturday because I have nothing to do on saturday and I have plenty of time to let them dry. I like to go to the beach on sunday after the shower. I soak my hair with the awesome saltiness and let it bake in the sun. Sometimes, I just come up from the beach when they have dried and go about my day. Other times I rinse them once they have dried and then I dry them just like I do when I take a shower (I wrap them in a towel that doesn't shed for 20 minutes and then airdry.) I really like the way my hair feels the day after I get out of the ocean.

I just have a regular schedule. My hair never feels nasty or itches. I guess I am lucky.

I was told to wait two weeks... I lasted five days. My scalp was gross and it felt sooo much better once I did.
