It's not a thing of the past, but your experiences do taint your current perception of the situation. It makes you paranoid and makes you overanalyze others' intentions. You think that people do certain things because of race, while in reality, they're probably just assholes in general.

I get stopped and searched practically everytime I fly because of my nationality. I've been through enough racism for being Russian in Israel and for being Jewish everywhere else. This still doesn't make me think that people treat me negatively because of that. I do realize that it's not the same, don't get me wrong...

Point being, subconscious childhood trauma is making you give race more power over yourself and gives you an excuse for feeling as a victim... you feel the pain of others who you think are mistreated or misrepresented because of their race because you have actually experienced that pain, yet that doesn't mean that you have to defend every single ghetto ass black guy, just like I don't have to defend every Jew. The fact is... Jews are greedy and ghetto ass black people don't tip well.

it's common. don't even front. the unconscious mind spares no one.

but even so, it's mind over matter that can definitely help overcome.

Didn't say that it wasn't common.

I'm just saying that you shouldn't make victims out of people who aren't victims.

Those ghetto ass black people are a disgrace to the African American culture and to everything the Civil Rights movement has achieved. It's almost as if black people are trying to push themselves back into slavery.

The comment you made is racist because you're generalising: lumping all black people together and labelling them a certain way. I bet you've had white people not tip you and be rude, Asian people and other people too from other races and backgrounds but you don't choose to judge all people based on your experiences with them. So why do it with black people.
The few black people you've had to deal with haven't tipped you and you've found rude but think about this rationally: in the grand scheme of things you've only met and encountered a very small percentage of the world's black population so you shouldn't judge them all. You're being ignorant and out of ignorance is born racism.

You didn't read this thread, did you?

But because I've got nothing better to do.

... the OP didn't say "all black people", but "the black people who come into my job".

    Learn to read.

Thanks for informing me about myself, but I'm actually not defending anyone. What I am saying is that the OP's thinking is racialist, nothing more. I am not the sort of guy who interacts with whites with a chip on my shoulder; that should be clear even from my participation in this forum.

I can't stand stereotypical ghettoness either, I don't care if it's black people or white people doing it. It's youthful affectation. It's an identity marker like any angsty teen fad.

The base problem concerning tips however is an economic problem, not a race problem.

I'm sure that you're a perfectly nice and decent person who has no problem with white people, or any people based on something as silly as race. I would never claim otherwise.

The problem is that some people don't see to outgrow the ghettoness. It's understandable when you're 16, but a lot of people seem to turn that into their permanent lifestyle.

As I've said before... people who cannot afford a tip should not eat out at restaurants. It's a whole lot cheaper to make food at home. It's not an economical problem. It's a lack of personal responsibility that seems to be perpetuated in ghetto black culture. (I'm sure that you don't need me to provide you with examples)

Now you're getting into normative territory and what people should do and should not do which is a different matter (and we may even agree upon that).

I'm sure you don't need me to provide you with more examples of white people going to restaurants and not tipping either.

My point remains that when you associate class issues with race you are guilty of racialist thinking (which is fine by me so long as it's acknowledged).

perhaps, it is that deep-rooted historical inferiority complex at work which many have sought to fathom. the mind involuntarily self-victimizing even though the reality may not be as such?

like i said, though, you can't help the stereotypes and how others think but you can control yourself. no one's a slave to his race, so mind over matter it is.

i was kidding. asians float my kashti.

I don't see how you can avoid racial thinking, if your definition of it stands. I also, yet again, see it as much more of a social issue than a class issue.

So you're suggesting that people should avoid stereotyping people who are stereotyping themselves?
