My cat is awesome....very affectionate. Loves to be pet, to sit on your lap, and gives kisses all the time. He even doesnt mind if I pet his belly (most of the time)....but if I dare even touch his back legs or tail/bum area he immediatley bites. Biting seems very out of charachter for him. But Im wondering if this is normal cat behavior...I have never known a cat to be sensitive about their back legs or bum touched. I wouldnt mind, but it's a pain in the ass when Im trying to pick those prickely stickies out of his fur or when Im checking him for fleas.......sometimes if I am petting him and I start to go near his back legs he nudges my hand away with his head, if I dont appease him and actually touch his back end, he bites. He isnt hurt......he has always been this way I guess, although I didnt really notice untill about a year ago when he started spending lots of time outside and I had to start grooming his fur and check for fleas. So what do you think? Is this normal or what?
Most of our cats love getting rubbed on the butt. The one that doesn't has an old injury that happened before he adopted us. He might have had something happen there you don't know about. Nothing to do about the stickers but go get them. May want to wear some thick gloves. The fleas - we get Advantage from our vet and put a dose on each one. It works quite well. I believe it lasts three months on the cat and keeps well for a much longer time. You can probably get better prices online. Don't repeat the mistake I made and get Hartz Mountain products. The stuff actually burned the fur off the cat where I applied the product.
I actually do use frontline on him.....but as well as that works, he continues to have a few fleas here and there. I honestly dont think he's hurt at all. He doesnt show any other signs of it.....Im very tuned into him, so I beleive if it was something like that I would notice......although I will mention it to my vet next time he goes. Perhaps he is just squeemish about his bum? hmmmm Using gloves is a good idea....thanks
My friend's cat was like that, she had hip problems which are apparently quite common in cats. I don't think there's a cure for it, but it still might be usefull to know whether thats the problem or not.
