Lol people seem to get dreads for the wrong reasons if you really want them youll put up with them if not why bother I dont think someone can easily make you change your mind like that unless you were having the thoughts yourself

i wasnt having the thoughts to take them out. i have no patience, but i had them before. I just genuinly cared about her enough to make her feel better by taking them out. i can start them when ever now. i showed her i used her opinion and now i can do mine. it works out well. Ive had lesser of importance people tell me before to take them out last time i had them but i kept them. the reason my sister cut them out was my dad and older brother said them would give me 100 dllars each for cutting them. I was poor and hair grows back. so everyone was happy, until my hair grew back super fast. now my hair is slightly shorter than before i started them last time. so i was debating on waiting to wait till my hair was longer so they would stay in better in the back.

I don't get it... you say you can let your dreads grow back now.. does that mean you're never seeing this woman again, or are you gonna let her take them out each time she sees you? *confused*

If you're gonna go through life doing shit like this to please people and make them feel better, you're not going to get very far.

It sounds to me like you have begun the dreading process before, but have never had mature dreads.

Then why did you let her take'em out before? :/

It's not like her opinions on you having them has changed?

I'm not pick'n on you or anything I'm just curious, why did her opinion matter then but it doesn't now? Also what are you going to do when you see her again? I understand you respecting her views and all but it just doesn't sound like she respects yours.

anyways, good luck with this set :)

Should have told her to go find some clean dreads than. And her not liking them on a white person is keeping racism alive. You should have also told her that her reaction made you feel uncomfortable. She sounds kind of ignorant.

The whole thing seems ridiculous. I couldn't imagine telling black chicks that all of those relaxers and conditioners in their hair doesn't end up turning out right cuz only white people look proper with long flowing straight hair and that they should just keep a nice natural afro instead. I wonder how offended she would have been if you offered an opinion like that?

I certainly would not listen to advice like that. I think that dreads do look pretty rough on white people until they mature and then I think they look cool.

As someone who is half black and half white and grew up with a pretty open minded mother I don't believe that anything is just for a certain race. Views like that are ridiculous. It really shouldn't matter to others how you wear your hair anyway. Also dreads have been around since people have had hair and they have formed regardless of race. You should do what you want and if something like hair affects someones relationship with you then they probably aren't worth the time.
