I haven't fucking slept in days. Well no.. thats a lie. I've been taking short cat naps to keep myself going. I'm on day 3 of being up all night. Any advice? Insomnia and sleep problems run in my family but I honestly miss a good night's sleep.

valerian root or melatonin. both over the counter, both very effective.

I agree ^. Melatonin used to be helpful to me. I take seraquil and some other RX im always forgetting the name of. I know when I cant sleep one thing that helps is moving locations. I go from my bed to my recliner quite often. Also, no tv, no books, etc.. they keep my mind too awake. However, laying there and thinking about how awful it is not being able to sleep is the most horrid feeling! So I've found that books on tape really help me.
Anyway.. I know it's such a horrible feeling. I feel like I'm coming off of a drug when I'm up for days. It's just ugly. I wish you luck my friend!

insomnia is a serious and very complex problem, you have to deal with it in steps.

obviously, you need to get some sleep now..
what i used to do, and it is individual problem, so it might not work for you, but anyway
-relax, before you even go to bed - what does usually relax you? hot bath? nature? now, this will not be a waste of time... it will help you sleep
    -valerian, camomile's tea...
-maybe some lavender scent in your room
-decide to deal with whatever problems that keep you awake later - after you get some sleep

maybe you should even see a doctor, if you cant sleep for so long
it might be a medical condition - for example, high blood pressure can keep you awake..
especially if it runs in the family..

    but in general,
its a problem that takes long term accommodating:
-getting enough exercise on a regular basis
    -regular sleep-wake rhythm
-little relaxing rituals before you go to bed (music, bath...)
-eating right (no heavy meals, no high-energy food before you go to sleep)
-if problems are what is keeping you awake, talk to someone, a therapist, a friend...
-herbal supplements are great (this valerian etc)

hm.. i probably forgot something here...
there are many good books on the subject...

well, try to get into a scheduled set of rituals before you try anything else. dinner at 6, bath at 8, no exercise or vitamins after noon, wake up at 6:00 on the dot, no naps, etc. if you stick to the schedule and your sleep rhythms are still messed up after a week, see your doctor.

    well,
if it's a serious disorder and if you have been suffering from it for a longer period of time,
a week might not be enough to sort things out...
    give yourself time,
but really, stick to the routine and to all these "sleeping rules"
and it might take 2 or 3 weeks until you sort your inner clock straight...

and no wild parties on weekends that ruin your week routine...

its good that you managed to sleep,
and if you slept for 11 hours, that means you can make it!!

also, its great that u get out of bed if u cant sleep -- walk around, surf the net for a while, and then go back to bed...
no point in lying there for hours.... that just messes you more up..

yeah i am back at it tonight... fortunately i managed to nap a bit during the day so i'm not overly tired. i'm wondering if this could be my hormones though, as it is nearing that time of the month... hoping i come out of it soon.

To be blunt and honest Masturbating always helps put me to sleep. You have to have an orgasm in order for it to work though :) Peace and Love
