    What would it be like?

I sometimes think about opening a hotel/ club or something.
Not for the money. But for the pure fun/social aspect of it.And have someone else run it.

Maybe answers to this would give an insight into people's personality.

It could be a pub, cafe, restaurant, bar, club , motel.Anything, any price, whatever.

I'll post mine, but later on...;)

I'd like to own a dark film noir themed cafe.

    Sounds cool.

In keeping with my Attention deficit disorder.
I'd convert an old industrial type complex on the edge of the city centre.

    Ground floor= poncey slick bar.
    Downstairs = flash club.
The side = strip bar full of the local villains.
upstairs boutique style but big hotel.
the back would be a giant gig venue type thing with a recording studio perhaps.

And there'd be space to extend and have some cutting edge freaky virtual reality place built on.

Would most likely be hopelessly impossible to achieve all these in one place, but thats my preference. It'd be a fun place to be around.

i'd like to run a bar, but honestly only so there would exist a place where i would actually want to go for a drink.

it would have a cozy, warm atmosphere, and play some quiet music. billiards and darts and the like, and an awesome ventilation system so it isn't overwhelming if people smoke inside.

primarily wooden furniture and the like.

and we'd focus on carrying a wide selection of good beers and wines, as well as classic cocktails (rather than featuring drinks with sexual innuendo in the names which college kids like to order for that reason only)

never would a can of redbull see the inside of the bar...

and i could go and relax with a glass of good scotch or brandy or beer and a fine cigar, and nobody would bother me about it...

In Britain, its amazing how badly so many pubs/ bars are run.
The landlords work when its quiet in the day, then decide they want time off when its busy...

Its a shame to see places run by people who haven't got a passion for them.

I was wondering what the successful bars of the future would be like.
Its interesting to see that the big bar groups are selling sites off to independents- contrary to the previous trend.Maybe that'll mean more originality and stuff...maybe less?

Cafe in the daytime, restaurant in the evening, bar at night. Make the most out of the rent money!
It would be loungy and chilled out, and I would incorporate some of the favorite things I've seen in restaurants/cafes/bars around the world.

My first instinct is to sell sell sell since a very large percentage of bars/restaurants fail in the first year and leave the owners in debt.

Definately a rock café or coffeeshop (dutch kind ;) ), it would not be elitist in any way although I like the atmosphere nesta would like to create. I detest red bull as well but in some ways the customer is king so to speak. Perhaps the music will be kind of elitist since there won't be played stuff I don't like or that's always played elsewhere.
When it's a bar long papers and ashtrays are on the bar and every table, cause in my bar there will of course be smoked! As it should be.
Actually, I prefer a bar above a coffeeshop cause in my bar there will be toked too. So why should I want a coffeeshop anyway! Oh yeah, for the buds...

I dunno what "theme" it would be, but whatever it was would be done on an epic scale to ensure success.

Coffee shop, because I just love the atmosphere of coffee shops. But it would have to be somewhere cool, because I'm refusing service to dickheads, lol. That might alienate a lot of the potential customer base here. haha.

I would have a little cafe in a college town, with big old lazyboys that more or less eat you when you sit in them. I would sell coffee, and the latte's stuff, I'd make muffins, cheesecakes, it would be yummy, rich, but not expensive like starbucks.

    Free wifi, and music selection.

Well first off, I'd own a classy bakery. Exotic, delicious, beautiful sugar creations that attract the customers who are willing to pay obscene amounts for my works of art. ;) And we have one of those around where I live, I've even met the owner, spoken with her, checked out her work, and she's good, but I know for a fact that I could easily do just as good if not better. And she's THE baker in the area. People pay out the nose to have her do their wedding cakes. I would love to be in that position someday in the future. Only time (and a lot of practice!) will tell.

Secondly, I'd like a little cafe along the lines of Panera. Heck, combine the bakery and the cafe, oh, and a winery, got to have some wine to go along with it.

Man, that's a tall order. Bakery, cafe, winery. Hmmm.

my friends and I tried to buy a bar, to call it "Almost Rocks".. Classic rock theme ..
But the **** that owned it wanted dirty money, she leased it to these darker skinned people.., after 3 deadly shooting there , they ran the place into the ground, put the bar on nuisance list, and its all gone now..
For Sale she wanted 60k, Its worth $1,500 now in less than 2 years..
you can get it for less cause its a empty lot in tax lean. ..
The **** also has a business degree from (Duffs< They are out of business too.. :cheers2: cheers.

Cos alot of bars are bought at too high a price. And the owners think they can pack up work at 5pm.Or they have no business skills.

I know people who've turned around bars /restaurants/hotels in failing areas and made an absolute killing.

Anyway, the thread idea is about a bar/whatever as a fun/social activity.:)

Infact some people buy the business cos it sounds "fun" but their "business brain" disappears before they've thought out a sensible offer. And they get burnt.
