I was talking with an agnostic friend of mine last night who I have not spoken to in a while. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl last year (seen photos this kid is a heart breaker) and she is not married to the father. They were going to get married last month but then he fucked some broad and well that relationship went down the crapper. However, that is another story. Needless to say my agnostic friend is happy and full of life. However, my agnostic friend has a sister-in-law who is very judgemental. She used to be a real hell raiser apparently long ago but then found religion and became Christian. About 6 months ago she, her husband and 4 children converted to Mormonism which caused her husband to abandon his military career 5 years away from retirement. Apparently when you try to have a philosophical arguement with this woman every phrase out of her mouth is a quote from the bible. My agnostic friend says she picks and chooses what she likes and fits into her life. Last night my atheist husband and I (too am an atheist) put her in her place about the gay marriage ban in California. However, my agnostic friend told me that her sister-in-law has been telling her that her beautiful daughter is a bastard and that both my agnostic friend and her daughter are going to hell. I laughed and so did my agnostic friend. I told her the next time she calls her daughter a bastard remind her politely that Jesus too was a bastard. Although born under the eyes of god. Mary still was not married to Joseph and in essence it was an affair. I want to know what you atheists and agnostics alike think of my bastard theory of Jesus and this woman who is supposed to be "Christian" being a jerk? :cheers2:
What's the point of arguing when you know people like this won't budge? Why add fuel to the fire? She's crazy, end of story. no point in "basterdising" a great story (whether you believe in it or not) for the sake of making someone very angry.... That's what I think.
Any way you look at it, Jesus was a bastard by the dictionary definition of the word, but fundamentalist christians still hate bastards. Trying to reason with them in a logical way is a waste of time and effort.
Not only was Jesus a bastard, he couldn't possibly have been born with a dick unless mary was a hermaphrodite. There would be no X chromosome if Joseph didn't supply it, Why the hell would God almighty have a dick unless Gods reproduce, then that means Gods are not infinite, which means Gods are mortal, which means Gods are not Gods at all.
...and if the Holy Spirit decided to "miraculously" grow himself a dick for the occasion, or simply caused the semen to magically "appear" in her vagina, that would make him a rapist, since the sex was not consensual. Nobody asked Mary's opinion.
Ok, I'm no Christian, but surely there is a huge aspect of the Jesus story which your friends sister is missing: Yes, Jesus was a bastard. His disciples and closest friends were social revolutionaries existing on societal fringes. He associated freely and specifically with those who were cast out (or who cast themselves out) of "normal" society. The whole idea, which Christianity seems to have forgotten, is surely more concerned with the superficiallity of accepted norms and the idea of one single people who should work together as a family to make the world a better place. I mean, maybe I've missed something, but I don't think I have.
People like that really frustrate me, but I think they like to frustrate people. They get off arguing with people, and sometimes I really wonder if they believe they're going to heaven, or if they just like to belong to an exclusive club.
they are pretty intence. i grew up in northern utah....everybody was mormon. needless to say, i didnt fit in very well.
