    Why aren't things the way we know they should be?

    Ownership?

    What do you "own" that could never be destroyed, nor taken from you, nor left behind, should you have to actually run for your life?

    I think people got bogged down a long time ago and lost the contact between what they had to do to survive and what they needed to exist. When one observes traditional subsistence societies (almost always very small) one tends to find several similarities regardless of location: altruism - the groups takes care of one another as best they can. Resources are shared relatively equally. Activities are conducted communally;

    Sense of location - people have a great understanding of their environment and how to live WITH and WITHIN it;

    perhaps most importantly.......

    Sense of Fun/magic - ritualised entertainment. Everyone joins in. There is no generation gap. As sly stone said "if it was good before, then it is still good now".
