bands seem to get more respect from their audience these days. they're less "entertainers" expected to give people what they want, and more "artists" free to express their creations as they please. without getting stoned like bob dylan, or heckled like jimi hendrix. hell, i have this live doors cd and you can just hear the rude things people shout. these days, if you have a live cd, you hear mostly "i love you!" "you rock!" and stuff like that. i dunno...just something i've been thinkin' about. what do you think?
I've heard what I consider to be rude applause before. Like a band will break down into some repetitive ambient thing, and very soon the audience will either become bored or it's some intrinsic thing which causes them to begin clapping. Even though, who knows what the band could be creating. Maybe they're just trying to protect the band from embarrassment. ???
I think it hasn't changed really, but there are genres these days in which the musicians do indeed not extra entertain the people but just stand their doing their thing. Sometimes I do think this is pretty boring. Not always, but sometimes it is just boring when they don't show any passion/emotion/anything while building up a slow ambient piece. I'm not at all asking to be entertained by a band in another way than by the music but live there should be some interaction with the crowd.
i'm not sure it's a matter of the times, rather the type of band and the audience size and character, individual things like that. i mean for instance take pink floyd, when they got really huge people would start clapping at the quiet bits of their songs, whereas earlier they could get the whole thing out uninterrupted
i feel you, now a days they're more of STARS then entertainers. a lot of the musik isn't even theirs! musik is like a fad now instead of a passion.
yeah, that fluff pansy rock is really annoying (mayer). dave matthews though...i dunno...i hated him till i saw him live at roo 05. his show is actually pretty cool.
