Everyday I try to find an interesting quote that makes me think. I find it helps keep my brain active and it's a good way to learn about new authors or philosophers. I am going to bed now. I am exhausted. This is from my favorite author and I thought I'd share it with whoever reads this. It's kind of interesting. Peace and Love, Good night I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. Edgar Allan Poe
Just EAP being as cynical as ever Commit a crime, and the earth is made of glass Commit a crime, and it seems as if a coat of snow fell on the ground such as reveals in the woods the track of every partridge, and fox, and squirrel and mole. You cannot recall the spoken word; you cannot wipe out the foot-track, You cannot draw up the ladder so as to leave no inlet or clue Some damning circumstance always transpires. Hotwater
Edgar Allen Poe was quite cynical. His stories are amazing but his journals can be pretty dark. I personally think he was somewhat right in that quote though. Especially this part. "I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity." At least up to this point since the time he printed this line I think he's right. Man has made many great feats, discoveries, and accomplishments since the 1880's, but it doesn't seem to have done much as a whole. They're more so a string of unrelated events and accomplishments. Sometimes it seems like we're just sitting still. Although who's to say that we as a species needs to or is suppose to be 'moving' forward or anywhere for that matter. The sentiment is a little sad but "it is what it is" is a much more fitting line I suppose. Who knows
"Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?" ~> Edgar Allan Poe, "A Dream Within A Dream"
