The biggest thing you can do I would think is collect rain water! I'm actually installing a barrel to collect rain water next year to water my garden with. Besides being free, I heard it's healthier because you don't get additives and contaminations like you would from ground water.

A couple good links on collecting rain water:

Another good idea is look up information on greywater systems, I not sure how feasible that would be for you though.

    More ways to save water:
    1. Install devices in your facets and shows head that slightly restrict water so you don't use as much.
    2. Flush your toilet only after you've urinated about 2 or 3 times (definitely flush if you've gone number 2), this might be a little stinky but you save about a gallon of water every time you don't flush. Since I'm the only one that uses my toilet I do this all the time and have been for years!
    3. Take showers instead of baths.
    4. When doing laundry wait until there is a full load.
    5. Turn off the water when brushing your teeth and shaving (don't keep the water on while you brush your teeth, only to put a little water on the brush itself).

    Hope this helps :)
