Some of Doom's shit is just sooooo wild, way far out.
I still think his two best songs are Doomsday and I Hear Voices

Steely Dan hasn't been covered by a metal band as far as I know, but that doesn't prove anything..

Would you concede that IDM (intelligent dance music....the most pretentiously named genre ever lol) offers more 'artistic freedom' than hip hop? An IDM musician can do everything a hip hop artist does, but a lot of things that a hip hop artist cant. If you answer this in the affirmative I will know that your opinion is a result of real objective analysis and not of your affinity for hip hop.

I'm going to say nay just to spite this :p

This conversation never was supposed to be a competition at all. I was just saying that I feel like hiphop has more ability to be as abstract as the artist wishes, and from many examples, hiphop has become very abstract indeed

What do you mean by abstract? How much more abstract than a 20 minute three-chord drone can you get? :p

if we are going to be pussies and talk about subjective feelings that are pointless to attempt to refute, I feel that no genre offers an artist less freedom than any other, and any limitations can only be self-imposed.

It's about making a cool film for the nonconformists.

Really, it's not that deep, I suggest the taking acid and watching, it'd be far more enriching.
