Have y'all seen this? http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-financial-regs16-2009jun16,0,4262249.story Sounds more like "Strike-While-the-Iron-is-HOT" ~ while the fire has everyone distracted, they can just slip in some good old fashioned "Le-gis-TRAI-shun" (said in the voice of the dude from the antacid commercial of long ago -- "In-di-JAYS-tchun" )! "President Obama’s plan to give the privately-owned and unaccountable Federal Reserve..." The Fed is not privately owned. Infowars interprets EVERYTHING as a sign of the apocalypse. Doesn't the thrill wear off after a while?
Yeah, actually ... it DOES get old. But it seems like the sources are either rabidly Left or Right, and there IS no blending, nor fair reporting, to be found. Anyway, i'd just like to discuss what has happened, without blaming Right or Left ~ just a discussion of what it means to US, in our everyday lives. What i still don't understand is the need for secrecy about ANY of the Fed's transactions ~ it's OUR money, and we want to know where it's ALL going. Also, i guess i just don't "get" the beauty of the gov owning our banking system, many of our largest corporations, etc. What IS the upside to this, Hip?
First of all, some of the Fed activities are secret because it is very easy to cause a banking panic. The rumour that the central bank had helped a bank out is enough to cause a panic at the bank. So sometimes the Fed needs to be able to quietly intervene behind the scenes. Secondly, like a poker player, you don't want everyone to see your hand. If you plan on intervening in the markets, you don't want to announce it, because then markets will move in anticipation of what you said you were going to do. And like I said before, if you let the politicians in you are compromising the independence of the Fed. Some people think that's OK, so we might see more transparency in the future. As far as owning banks and companies, no there's nothing good about that. Obama doesn't want to own these companies, and he will sell the government stakes as soon as possible. I promise you that. This isn't an Obama plan or policy, this was an emergency response to a serious financial crisis, it was going to be the same under Bush or Obama.
who is the Fed controlled by ? i've heard that congressmen apoint certain people to regulate the Fed, but then there is that twist where the congressman is probably on the apointee's payroll.
The Fed is controlled by its Board of Governors which is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
They have share holders and they make profit. They loan money on interest because they were given the power by the government and people to print money and loan it back to us with interest. It profits and distributes the profits to share holders...I mean someones gotta run it...
Hip? It IS all rather: ... if this ... ... that ... ... the other ... are done ETHICALLY, no problem! But if there are "evil geniuses" (EGs, for short) trying to take over, it would certainly appear that they have figured out exactly how to do it... It's truly pitiful, that we have to suspect folks of trying to do us over, whether on a personal, financial, or political level, but there's no such thing as ethical behaviour, anymore.
That's because this world is run by psychopaths. http://educate-yourself.org/cn/barrretttwilightofpsychopaths21aug08.shtml
I don't think so, because all these people say "oh the Fed is private and controlled by evil conspirators" and when you show them it isn't private, and that it is controlled by the government, they say "oh well the government is controlled by evil conspirators so it makes no difference". Well if it make no difference then why pretend the Fed is private when it isn't? Just try the reverse approach - if the conspiracy really were true, what could we do? Have Rat and Drew lead a witch hunt for conspirators (which would result in half the country ending up in prison)? And even then how would we know the new govenment weren't new conspirators?
That's something i've been wondering about ~ if there are EG's, and they're running a game on us, what are we supposed to do about it? Isn't it a little too late to be worrying about what the Fed has done with the money? There's no way to get it back, right?
Hard for me to answer since I don't believe in the EGs. But if it were true I would think there would always be a point in fighing against them. And even if you thought the Fed money was lost, well life goes on. There's going to be more money for the Fed to lose in the future, so if you think the Fed loses your money you would want to stop them!
