Hey all, I've posted before a few times and then disappeared for a bit, but i am back. And with one day old dreadlocks! TaDa! I back-combed but didn't use anything else. I have put bands on the end, but I'll take those out when i wash (which will be in about a week!) My hair is a major mess! But i think that is a good thing....? The top of my head feels like a fluff ball. I have a few loops in some of them, and the odd stray hair which i unfortunately missed when i combed them. Can i do anything about this? At the moment i've just being wearing a hat 24/7 and ignoring them. Which has the added bonus of making them lie down as well, as they tend to stick out a lot! Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks all !
My camera is being nasty to me, on purpose i don't doubt. Give me an hour or two and they should be up!
These seem massive, but photobucket hates me as well it seems and isn't resizing them. I'll keep trying and then replace them with smaller ones! Excuse the bad pictures, i used my mobile which isn't all that great!
loops are the best. Really. Loops and bumps and frizzies and curlies, and loose hairs. Personally, I dont like to see uniform dreadlocks. I backcombed mine by myself a week or so ago, and my mum desperately wanted me to get them professionally done. I didnt want to, because I want the imperfections! the lopsidedness, different sized dreads, the loose ends, I love it. I say just let your hair do its thang, Eventually, with time, everything will get sucked in on its own. * One of my favorite things about my dreads is....the part thats un-dreaded! Near my ears and temples, there is loose hair that lies there. I love it. =]
well a month or so. if it doesn't then i'd venture to say that it won't, at least for a very long time. and if it bothers you, just crochet it.
another brummieeeeeeeeeeee =D um. if the loose hairs really bother you, crochet them ive got loads and loads and im at 4 months backcombed, they just dont bother me now =]
how can you stand walking around with tiny rubber bands all over your head? it doesn't have to be this way friend.
Why does every one try to get dreads when their hair is like 4 inches long? Good start, just let them be for around 4-5 years. Crochet be damned.
Why not? It seems stupid to wait a couple years for your hair to get longer, and then wait another couple years for it to turn into dreads (assuming you wouldn't go natural method either way)
My hair was 6.5 inches when i started, it shrunk loads. I wanted to wait longer, but i just got fed up of waiting! I dislike the bands, but I'll get rid of them in a week and they will soon be a distant memory!
The shorter the hair, the harder it is for it to dread. And, most people with short dreadies end up hating them before they get to the good part, because dreads make hair shrink, and hair takes much longer to look as though its grown when its in dreads. So, it's better to let it grow, then dread. If you don't have the patience to let your hair grow to a good length before you start, you'll never have the patience for dreads.
