The topic was sort of brought up in the Applebee's thread, but I'd like to expand on it with its own thread. What restaurants do you consider fancy? Where is the fanciest place you've ever eaten? What qualities does a restaurant have to have to be considered fancy? I guess I'd have to say the fanciest restaurant I've ever been to was the Amarillo Club. It's apparently the high-end social club for the socialites of Amarillo, and all the wealthiest people have memberships. I was lucky enough to have a summer fling with a highly respected doctor's son and he took me to his high school prom, and we had dinner there. It's located at the top of the Chase Tower in Amarillo, the tallest building in the Panhandle, if I'm not mistaken. The waiters and waitresses all wore tuxedos and the "prom night specials" were bogus! I had a vegetarian pasta and salad and it was like $26.00, and all the meals with meat were at least $40. They were really REALLY cool, though, because if you were on the list, you were "royalty" to them. And they had that crazy ass million fork setup going on, but it was nice because it was just my boyfriend and I and he thought it was adorable how unrefined I was. Haha. Anyway, I can't find any pictures of the place to show you guys, so here's their website http://www.amarilloclub.net/ . It's really uptown and snotty, lol. I felt so out of place, like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I felt like a hooker in a fancy dress.
I've eaten at $100+ a plate restaurants maybe at most 10ish times in my life. Fancy is usually $30-50ish for the entire dinner per person for me. My parents like to eat fancy, so I'm lucky enough to be taken out by them every weekend right now during the summer. (I'm worth the investment. My company is priceless)
http://www.biltmore.com/visit/dining/deerpark/ Part of the movie hannibal was filmed there. Greatest meal ever nothing tops off duck like thinking about cannibalism.
Haha, sweet deal! The fanciest my parents have ever sprung for is...yeah, the chain steak houses I mentioned in the Applebee's thread. Cheddar's and Chili's mainly, lol. They're kind of dirt poor, though, and have to break out the credit card for those rare dates. We usually eat nice when something horrible happens (i.e.- the day we decided to take my grandpa off of life support), when my grandma is visiting, or special days like birthdays or my parents' anniversary. Recently, the fanciest place I've been to has been Sakura, a Japanese steakhouse. Apparently it's a chain, so I'm sure others have probably been there, too. But man, it was fucking goooood.
Well, at least you get to go out. Poor African children don't even get to eat shit Mickey D's burgers. I only get to use my parents for food for 4 months out of the year though... I'm half-starving, half wasting my money on Chinese buffets and beer the other 8.
I love Chinese buffets. ESPECIALLY ones that offer take-out. You know how much shit you can pack into one of those take-out trays? I can get 3 meals worth for $10, and I can't cook Chinese food worth a damn (except fried rice), so that's DAMN cheap for decent Chinese.
I use my family for good meals too, otherwise, I can't afford expensive places. These are a couple places I'm a fan of, by my parents: BLT Steak: http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/Westchester/Dining/blt_steak/Menu.htm Harvest on Hudson: http://www.harvest2000.com/hoh/dinner.html 42: http://www.42therestaurant.com/ I also like Legal Sea Foods, dunno if it's "fancy," but it's expensive.
My ex-boyfriend and his cousin got kicked out of China Star. "You eat too much, you pay for more plates or go away!"
This might be the fanciest I have been too http://www.casamonica.com/95cordova/ I prefer that middle of the road privately owned hole in the walls, greasy spoons,or ethnic food sorta places (that serve veg food, I know that really is a lot to ask for) to the high end or the chain though. If I am going to eat from a chain I tend to prefer my food came into my car through the window,or was delivered.
I've been to a few upscale restaurants here in Montreal..Queue de Cheval, 40 West, Modavie. It's cool and the food is good, but I prefer the smaller family run places where the food is fresh and tastes homeade...plus you don't have to dress up! Oh- and you can bring your own wine.
When i go out im with my little ones so we dont do fancy. I dont think ive ever been in a fancy restaurant.
I don't think I've ever eaten anywhere where the meal was more than $20-30. The fanciest restaurants I tend to eat at are generally upmarket/modern international resturants in the city - The sort of places that make Italian Alps dishes instead of generic Italian, or cook REAL indian food using real Tandoors. My relatives also took me to a lot of posh little restaurants in the English countryside. I've never eaten silver service.
i knew someone was gonna mention The Melting Tits.... i used to work there and i have loads of stories... dudes dipping their nuts in fondue cheese... smoking weed in the walk in freezer... getting drunk on the job... finding panties at the closed off tables in the corner known as "lovers lane." mostly its that the place serves really low quality meat and its disguised as high-end by placing it on some kale leaves and adding garnish. its really over priced ($90 for 3 course to feed 2 people). and to top it off you have to cook your own fucking food?!! wtf?! i just had to smash their reputation because they are also assholes to their employees.
