I was sitting today and thinking....why dont they say the drinking laws this way....beer and wine at 18 then when you're 21 you can drink hard liquor.

now im only dreaming so dont laugh but it really makes sense to me. now not everyone digs beer or wine but its something to have. and its not as hard on your system like hard liquor is. I'll take me as an example.

when I drink beer, im chill. I dont really get drunk off of it unless i keep drinking rapidly. but im chill compared to hard liqour which 5 shots of good vodka and im stumblin and mumblin and actin goofy

now not all people may not be like this but beer/wine can be easier on ya then hard liquor.

    i dunno. just thinking

probably because it's awfully easy to get drunk off of beer and wine -- that's no obstacle for an underaged teen

In the Netherlands it is a bit like that actually; beer and wine from the age of 16 and the other stuff at 18.

No more than it would be with any other system I suppose. At least those 16 year olds can drink legally instead of illegally. They do it anyway, but at least they mostly stay with the softer alcoholic drinks (in bars and other public places that serve alcohol).

It really is all the same. There is no difference between hard and soft booze. Only an idiot will drink the equivalent volume of hard liquor as he would of beer.

Drinking age should be at 18 as it is. The U.S. is one of the only countries with a drink age so ridiculously high. (if not the only one, I'm not sure).

I started drinking when I was 15, and I don't drink near as much now as I used to. I think that this is good, I got over the excitement of drinking when I was younger, as one should... while some Americans get all hyped about it when they turn 21 and die of liver failure.

The drinking age here in Ontario is 19, and 18 in Quebec.

You have to earn your drinking privileges as an American.

You think it's annoying... but imagine my annoyance when I came to the U.S. as an 18 year old from a country which doesn't have an enforced drinking age.

thats another thing that ran through my mind. people get psyched here about turninG 21. especially if they dont party a lot when they are under 21 so they really dont know what their body can handle. I still dont know what my body can handle. I take shot after shot. still im a little wild but hell i went through it, and i kinda got tired of it so yeah i calmed down. and thats another reason why it should lower so people can hae that taste of it and get burnt out by it sooner or later

earning it by turning 21? thats silly. any 21 year old can react like an 17 yr old with a naive mind

I'm not saying that it's not silly.

I'm saying that's the way it is.

You're a girl though, people will buy you booze as it is and you can get into bars if you're cunning enough. (or skilled a cunnilingus)
