Thats quite a statement. I'm flattered.

You interested in becoming a pilot?

    don't have the option

I'm going to be an engineer and design the shit that gets flown though

I have been playing with critical mach numbers for the past three months in matlab :p

I have to put the bong down so I can pee.. Maybe Ill just strap a dong to me and cheat..
I have a instrument rating for LSA.. < and not the kind you trip on :D ..
I need money to for some instructor time.. atm not cost effective, think I might just get stoned and pay the 200 bucks every couple month have a privy take me up for a spin..
be nice to find a bobcat and smuggle some dope but I dont seee that happing :(

i'm not sure what else to say ~

that is a SKILL, that takes a LOT of training, intuition and experience,

    No.

    That STILL sux.

So NO is my answer. ;)

Ace, I'm 2 years into an Aero Engineering degree also. Matlab is the bane of my existence. None done anything with it linking to mach numbers but twinned with Xfoil it mangles the noggin.

As far as flying goes though, I'm a solo glider pilot, and thats how its going to stay. Very good fun, and a tiny fraction of the time flying (£20 per hour in a club owned glider compared to £100+ per hour in a club cessna).

EDIT: Bruce Dickinson is a LEGEND! John Travolta is also pretty cool, he owns and flies a Boeing 707 about the place, and is an official ambassador for quantas. Plenty of cool people do flying, the coolest hobby of all. Unfortunate that Colin McRae was to die doing it :(

do you know if glider licenses have less strictures? I'd love to do that.

honestly I was thinking I could probably get away with a pedal powered zeppelin below 200 feet.

I can only tell you about the rules in the UK. We fly to most of the same air laws as other aircraft, though are not allowed to fly in controlled airspace as we are unable to maintain constant headings, altitudes, and airspeeds as a glider is continually descending, ascending, or pointing at the next source of lift the pilot intends to use. There are a few rules that dont apply to us, for example, most aircraft (except military aircraft in certian specific zones) must stay greater than 500 feet above the ground, however there is an exception for a glider soaring on a ridge.

If you are interested in flying as a hobby, or just for a try, I would say it is the best way by a long shot. It is very cheap compared to almost all other forms of flying, much easier on the undercarriage (i mean knees) than hang/para gliding, and there is a real skill involved in staying in the air (finding sources of lift and exploiting them). If you get it wrong, you end up landing in a field and having to get your pilot mates to bring a trailer to get you home.

You can also do most of the aerobatics that a powered plane can, and some maneuvres that they cant. I highly reccomend people give it a go.

Are you able to drive a car? If so you're probably able to fly a plane. Besides, you can still fly with an instructor powered or unpowered.

in the u.s. if you are diagnosed with epilepsy at all, you cannot fly. it is a TOTAL no go.

I have to get a letter from my neuro every year to keep driving, and each time I lose consciousness I can't drive for three months.

Wow, I expected that you might not be able to fly solo, but not a blanket no. Blimey!
