My friend wants to bleach her dreads but neither of us are to sure of how that goes with dreadlocks. Any tips? Her dreads are 6 months old and are looking pretty tight. I have heard that bleaching dreads can make them grow at a slower rate but dont know how true this is. If it is true is the rate they grow at a big difference or is it only a little slower? What would be the best product to use? How long should you keep it in for? Can your dreads dry out so much that they could break off (dont know if that could happen)? Any input would be appreciated :)

Thank you very much! Were gonna try the lemon juice method seems safer and a lot cooler haha, I mean how many people can say that they dyed their hair with fruit :)

Does your friend want bright platinum blonde hair? What's the current colour? ....I wouldn't put that much hope in lemons personally, unless I had quite light brown hair and wanted to look like I may possibly have been in the sun for a while when viewed from certain angles and in the right light. If I wanted to have hair that looked bleached, I would bleach it.

Awe I had my hopes up cause lemon juice sounded awesome. Her hair is medium/kinda dark brown so I guess that lemons wont do much. I didnt see anything in that thread about creating a slower rate of growing so im assuming its not true but have you ever heard anything about that before? That is her main concern cause she wants her dreads really long and doesnt want it to grow at a slower rate if its significantly slower.

No I've not heard about this happening or ever experienced slowed hair growth due to bleaching. It can increase hair breakage, so the hairs have a reduced chance of reaching a certain length, but that's more of a problem with undreaded hair.

It doesn't make it grow slower but it can make your hair shrink like mad because of how dry it gets. Pretty sure i've said this before but, 2 friends had their locks done, same day/way. One was bleaching hers and they shrunk from past her boobs up to her shoulders, the other girls hair stayed about the same length.
