I thought there were a few. But, I probably thought Pakistanis where Indian...or some other such faux pas. Many do.
Touchy subject, eh? I think it is safer for me to say "asian" I didn't appreciate they were Pakistani.
If it were touchy you would've been getting mad smilies from me but yeah, it's probably safer that way.
To begin with your topic is based on an illusion... Upon the invention of the steam engine, airplane and other such modes of transportation the illusion of race occured... Now you might say what "illusion" I see right in from of me you are black I am white, well the only difference is the black folks are indigenous closer to the equator... thus the darker pigment, this also applies to other things such as shape of face and there are unlimited factors based on geography, but it's time to smarten up and love your brothers. WE ARE ALL HUMAN! Peace+LOVE
I know we are all human I know what you are saying. But this is not what I am saying. Come into the real world where there is prejudice due to ethnic diversity. Where there are quotas and statistics regarding how many ethnic people are here there and everywhere. In this case, predominantly white countries have - in my opinion - way more coloured people on TV than is credible. Can you engage in that thought rather than the brotherhood of man? Please don't take it too seriously, however.
The UK is 93% white. I'd say that was predominately white. Also: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showpost.php?p=5429381&postcount=12 The US is predominately white too.
that statistic is black smart guy, ethnic isn't just black, and that's great about the UK, both irrelevant facts, try again.... anyways your overall point is... well... pointless.. start a new thread
I'll give you the other one maybe just the black population. I found a better analysis. It isn't irrelevant, because the whole point is, if a country is predominantly white or any particular ethnicity...should this be represented in TV? The answer should be YES. BUT, the issue I have seen, and you are free to disagree, is that there seems to be more ethnic people on TV than the overall ethnic diversity of a country suggests. The U.S. population's distribution by race and ethnicity in 2006 was as follows: Total population: 299 million White alone: 74% or 221.3 million Not including the 23.2 million White Hispanic and Latino Americans: 66% or 198.1 million Hispanic or Latino ethnicity, of any race: 14.8% or about 44.3 million Black or African American alone: 13.4% or 40.9 million Some other race alone: 6.5% or 19 million Asian alone: 4.4% or 13.1 million Two or more races: 2.0% or 6.1 million American Indian or Alaska Native alone: 0.68% or 2.0 million Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander alone: 0.14% or 0.43 million These figures add up to more than 100% on this list because Hispanic and Latino Americans are distributed among all the races and are also listed as an ethnicity category, resulting in a double count. I have already started other threads. Don't like this one?...piss off.
Why should some random representation be predominately any color, how do you know what color someone SHOULD be... And what's wrong with a good debate, no one else is commenting on your poor topic for a thread
Excuse me? what does this mean? Good grief...please understand what I am saying. This isn't what I am saying. Infact it is so far removed from what I am saying, I can hardly see it. That's because threads end eventually. This one did. People did comment. You missed it. Till you dragged it back up and missed the point completely. I like a good debate but you wasn't providing one. Infact you seemed to wish to dismiss the debate.
I dont know. I think there are too many commercials and stuff with all white people. They should have asians or blacks or something. And if they do its like 2 black people and 45 whites and 1 asian and theres usually stereotypes for the black and asian people. I just dont watch much tv ^__^ But yeah. Muaha. [random sorry]
Piggy-backing on what you said, I would say that people of color, as a whole, are under-represented in ads (both television and print) and prime time TV. And even if Black people are not bearing the worst of the situation, in terms of TV appearances, I don't think Black people should have their air-time taken away as some here might have you believe. Rather, there just needs to be more roles for Native Americans, Middle Easterners, Latins, Asians, etc.
Hey,I have an idea,it's simple and always worked in the past. How about having people that are the most qualified and talented.--I'll bring up CNN again it seems at least half to 2 thirds of their anchors(newscasters) are now black .--Rather than hiring talent, they hire on the basis of color.--I hardly view US mainstream news(so-called news) anymore, but CNNs anchor people seem like high school amateurs, not because of their color--but lack of talent etc.--As far as commercials, the volume of commercials shown on US tv nowadays is the real problem and makes mainstream tv un-viewable,so who cares about commercials.
There are many, many, networks that have predominantly white newsmen and newswomen. Using your logic, does that mean that those networks specifically hire people because they're white? By the way, does CNN expressly say that they prefer to hire black people (vs other races)? Or do they have many black newsmen because (as i suspect), CNN is headquartered in Atlanta? And the last time i checked, Atlanta was almost 60% black. So if CNN hires local people, there are better than even odds that any given person they hire is going to be black. But God forbid that any news-team be predominantly black, right? Now whether CNN's newspeople are competent are not, that's another issue. I don't watch CNN, i wouldn't know. But shame on CNN or any other network that hires incompetent people of any race... Who cares about TV commercials? People who watch the medium , the actors of all races who try to get gigs in them, and those who track ad trends...
Since I no longer view any 'mainstream' US tv ,in a way I don't care about this issue anymore.Let people who actually still watch the comtemporary nonsense comment.Really American tv has become just drivel in between pharmaceutical commercials. It's unfortunate because America 'used' to produce the best tv shows, but that was during the 1950-1970s.
Bernard Shaw himself, one of your guys at CNN, when asked, "What is the state of diversity in the newsroom today?" replied, "Proponents of diversity should never be pleased with the level of staffing, be it African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans ..." Here's the link to where he said it, for anyone else who cares to read it. I know that wouldn't be you... http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brad-w...shaw-blames-racism-illegal-immigration-debate And have you seen some of the smart dramas on CBS and FOX lately? It's a new century already and it's a shame that you can't find at least one show today that you like...
