This question of for everyone but specifically for those who have ended up homeless by choice (and wanting to live on the streets, in a car or as a nomad count). What is it like the first few hours / days / weeks after becoming homeless. I am working on a book and want the details to be right.

hell ive been homeless a few times the best was when i was living in my van and my hustle was giving rides to all the other homeless for gas money and drugs--i learned hoe to get everything free --food clothes-medical-glasses every thing is free if your homeless except drugs---i mean u can get fat being homeless they give so much food away---i kinda liked it but its dangrous ---its cool living in a van not so cool if you have to stay at a shelter---hell go homeless yourself if your writing a book you will meet all kinds of people from junkies to the mentally ill to old vets to the street kids and just anti societal people---just dress down dont want the homeless to think your rich but a car will put u in demand and youll learn alot more on the street than you will reading about it--hell you can do it on weekends just to check it out---dont be scared --do it

I was homeless in New Orleans for 6 months. There were 6 feedings a day if you learned were they all were and there were hundreds of abandoned buildings just outside the french quarter. I had a good time there, met a lot of cool people found work and made good money.

The only reason I left was it seemed like everyone down there was into blow, and I'm not really that into drugs. I could have stayed there forever if I could have found some good (non addict) friends.

Oh I forgot Nalends isn't there anymore, drat .

It's scarey until you realize that you have lots of time to figure out what to do. I used to find keg parties (college town) and crash on thier floor... I'd sleep outside when it was warm enough. I found work... Used to wash up at fast food gas station bathrooms. I was young and still cute enough to find people to help me. Other homeless people taught me a few useful things... Where to get day old bread, how to get clothing, what stuff I could eat that was growing nearby... Shit like that.

the first few days i think it's sort of peaceful, until hunger sets in and stuff i'm fine. it wasn't too hard to find food. one time when i was in philly i stayed next to this gas station and he would give me some food, nothing too nutritious but it wasn't a big deal.
