i'm thinking of getting a tattoo, probably on my back (shoulder blade area), or arm, but probably not arm because i'm fairly skinny guy so there's not a lot of space to work with. side has also been suggested to me, but I'm not sure if I'd want to do that. the tattoo would be the grim reaper playing acoustic guitar on a rocking chair. This does have some personal meaning to me, but I feel that as a tattoo the actual image is more important, so I'll just let you guys comment on that and the placement, which i'm also not sure of.
I can sorta imagine it seeming more logical on your side rather than at the top of your back, just because I picture a rocking chair on the ground and not up in the air, you know? And if a good shadow was cast it would have more weight and really look like it was sitting on you. It sounds like a design with scope to look either really shit or really good, depending on the artist. In the rocking chair, there's nice potential for wood grain detail and a bit of a shine etc, and same with the guitar too.
I agree with amybird..side would flow best for that design, or maybe lower back off to one side (in b/t side and back...if that makes sense). I could picture it well. Also amybird: holy cheekbones you're gorgeous!
What is the meaning behind it if you don't mind me asking? Just be careful with your ribs/ side area it is pretty painful for most people. Have you ever thought about your calf?? Or are your legs skinny too??
The meaning of it has to do with my grandfather, who died about 6 months ago, but not just him, since I'm not planning to get a new tattoo every time someone close to me dies, that seems really creepy to me. To me it kind of just represents the idea that death could be just around the corner at any point, and that I should live life keeping that in mind and trying to do the most I can. The thing about a calf tat that I don't really like is that it's visible when wearing shorts, and I'm the kind of guy that would want to keep all my stuff below the sleeve level so none of it is visible and only people I know closely even know I have it. Otherwise I agree calf would be the perfect spot.
im guessing the guitar and the rocking chair are things ur grandpa liked. i have also had family members die. i dont have any tattos but if i were to get a memorial one. i think it would be along these lines.
yeah I'd go along with shoulder blade or calf. Good idea to be able to conceal them if your work has anal rules about visible tattoos (can't believe I'm saying that, what with my rebellious background, perhaps age is mellowing me, just hope not too much)
I'd scrap the idea. Not completely. Have a more simple tattoo...see if you like it. Wait a few years and THEN have a more elaborate one.
I actually think I'm gonna end up getting it this summer, in the next couple of weeks, once I save up the money. I just gotta find someone to take me to the shop, since the one I want to go to is about a 30 minute drive, and I don't have a car.
