Well, there's anime and anime... but the name Miyazaki kind of guarantees for very good movies. Castle in the Sky is a nice one, too. Mark Hamill voicing the villain in the English version... cute. Of course, Princess Mononoke is one of the top 3 of his making. The other two would be Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, IMO. Wiggling toes, ~*Ganesha*~
There is a web-based video portal called veoh.com, where you can find quite many good anime movies, including English dubbed versions of Miyazaki's movies. I got Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Winds and Goro Miyazaki's Tales from Earthsea there... (The last being the first movie directed by the son of the master...) There's quite aplenty of quality anime to be found there. I got my English-dubbed version of Wolf's Rain there, too. Registering there is free, as well as the web-based client to view and download videos. Wiggling kawaii toes, ~*Ganesha*~
i don't really go for the kiddie type anime. in anime 'perfect blue' is more my type of thing. it ain't kiddie anime either!
I finally got the chance to watch "Princess Mononoke" after my friend persuaded me to watch it. And while I liked the story and the artwork, I couldn't help but feel the whole thing was moving along too slowly. I felt that they could have condensed it down a bit, it's not the greatest movie I've ever seen but good for an introduction to Anime.
I liked this flick, but I agree there are parts that move slowly... Lord knows I have seen worse! hahaha
this is one of the few i've seen in recent years. it had all of the elements i like, plus a few extra i could take or leave, but realize they seem to be mandatory to get anyone to watch something. for me it was as much about really beautiful art in motion, as about story, though story there was there too, or at least as much as there usually ever is in cinimatic medium. the mysticism was left largely open ended, which is apropriate to be what it is. humans torn by internal struggles, ghosts, furrys and spirit stuff the real heroes, as much as heroes are ever real. and i did like its honesty about that, even if i wasn't always comfotable with some of the ambiguity. i'm one of those people who DON'T subscribe to "humans HAVE to be that way". but i do subscribe to the redeamingness of nature's diversity. that and the whole benignness of strangeness more so then the familiar which it communicated very well and was what i really especially liked about it.
i love this film! and i also love nausicaa and the valley of the wind. another one i really like is howl's moving castle. i'm not a huge anime fan but these movies are really enjoyable.
i haven't seen it in years, but i loved it when i first saw it. i should watch it again soon haha. anyway, a really good free anime site is justdubs.com. it has loads of series and i think it has a lot of movies as well. i am not in any way affiliated with the site, i just thought i would help you guys out if you were interested in anime god knows i had trouble finding a good site with the shows i wanted to watch.
All of studio ghibli movies are great. I enjoyed Princess Mononoke the least, though. Maybe it's too old for me. My favorite was Howl's Moving Castle.
