Id just like to take this opportunity to express my deep seeded love of video game music. It like, rocks man. Haha I have a pretty big collection of tracks from my favorite games that have been redone with instruments. I have a ton of earlier final fantasy (ffVII and under), super metriod, mario, megaman, crono trigger, etc. I can just sit there and listen to it all day. Nothing like listening to zeromus from FFVI done in with a guitar, drums, and bass. I suppose it takes me back to my childhood where I did not have a care in the world. Oh nostalgia :p.

Anyone else listen to video game music, and if so what do you listen to? Oh and I'm always looking for more mega man instrumental versions so if you know of any good ones please point me in the right direction. Same goes for FF tactics tracks.

Nice! Although I don't think I've played any of those games lol. Except Halo. Halo has great music! I think I have halo 1 and 2's OSV's. Very good stuff.

Im right there with ya man, VGM is one of a kind. It kinda conditions you cuz certains tracks will instantly hype you up cuz it'll be played during a real intense part of a game.

Final fantasy easily has the best soundtrack of any game series, especially their piano collection (which I play). Chrono Cross has some decent songs (dreams of the shore near another world), as well as Kingdom Hearts or Megaman.

I know exactly what you mean Oni. Sometimes I will be driving, and then some game music will be on thats from an intense part in some game and before I know it I'm doing 100 km weaving in and out of traffic lol.

Agreed final fanasy has some of the best tracks of all time. I have the piano collections from FF IV, VI, and VII. And you can play that!? Listening to those makes me want to start playing lol. I think tactics has the best music...I just wish I could get my hands on a live recording.

Kenji Ito is my favorite VGM composer. Here's a sample of his work.

Yup Nobuo Uematsu is great. The man composed most of the tracks for one of the greatsest game series of all time, the final fantasy series. I managed to get ahold of the black mages albums. Something about hearing FF tracks in a rock format that puts you in a state of awe. Interesting note, the guy apparently composed the main theme for smash brothers brawl.

He's done all kinds of work.
I recently found out that he contributed to the music for Chrono Trigger.
It's like whatever game he works on automatically becomes excellent.

I have VGM from Suikoden II which has very good music, especially the intro theme music and the Luca battle theme.

Chrono Trigger had some of the best RPG music for SNES. I have the arranged jazz version called "Brink of Time" that sounds like it's straight out of New Orleans. It has on the cover a plate with eggs, bacon, toast, and a glass of OJ. The two best tracks from that jazzed up version of Chrono Trigger's music are the first and last tracks, the Chrono Trigger main theme and the ending theme.

When it comes to the Final Fantasy series, I have VI-X, including FF VI piano collection. Ever heard the arranged version of "One Winged Angel" when Sephiroth is fought against in his final "safer" version? That sounds right at home with Carmina Burana, as the lyrics of the piece come from Carmina Burana. Or the arranged version of Aerith's theme from FF VII (the one played in the game when Aerith is murdered by Sephiroth.) An old friend of mine had that played at his grandmother's funeral in 2000. Man, that was very tear evoking as I already knew the mournful nature of that piece. With the Final Fantasy overture ( the triumphant sounding piece that's in every FF game), the version of that that sounds the best, to me anyway, is the version of it from FF VIII in the ending piece. The best version of the FF prelude or crystal overture is from FF IX. Sounds like a real harp being played and probably is. I also have a Final Fantasy concert from Feb 2002 and the Symphonic Suite which covers I-III.

I also have Star Ocean: The Second Story soundtrack.

I crave all types of video game music. I've listened to it since I received my first Sega Genesis bundled with Sonic 2 up until today. ...Coming up on 25 years, I am, but I have no shame in listening to the BGMs; from goofy tumes in Earthworm Jim 2, to the new hip beats of Streets of Rage1/2 to the epic instrumentals of the Metal Gear Solid series and Resident Evil titles.

    I love me some vgm
