haha no kidding right? well i have a high tolerance obviously, i've been on OC for chronic pain for almost 3 years now. still, it makes being cooped up in a hospital room pretty bearable. i just chill out, watch TV, play online poker, and write. oh, and post on this forum.

sometimes, it pays to be sick, lol

Actually, I have a genetic disorder called Cystic Fibrosis. it affects the lungs and digestive system, and for me, it causes chronic joint pain, plus chest and back pain from coughing.

I end up in the hospital a couple times a year for 2-3 weeks each visit because of the serious lung infections coupled with the pain my disease causes. The good part is that I like opiates, and they basically give me whatever I need since my disease sucks :)

I've had to be in the hospital for long periods like this since I was a kid, so I don't mind the antibiotic treatments, IV's, nurses, and breathing treatments I have to do, especially when I'm high as a kite on OC/Dilaudid the whole time.

Last hospital visit they gave me a Patient Controlled Access Pump aka PCA pump full of Morphine. It gave me a steady drip of 6mg per hour plus the ability to hit a little button for a 1mg instant hit once every eight minutes. That was wonderful.

The great thing is, I get to be on chronic opiate therapy cause of my chronic pain so I'll leave here with prescriptions so I won't have to withdraw. Thank God, cause otherwise that'd be awful. it might not even be worth it... no, it would be.

its 1:20am and I'm in Oregon. And actually, the nurses arent that diligent about watching me when I take my meds, so I've saved a few of the OC's I get three times a day so I could snort them. I just finished snorting a 40mg OC on top of the 60mg I took whole at 10pm. And... at 3am I can get my middle of the night shot of dilaudid :) So i will nod off till my alarm wakes me at 3 and then i'll call my nurse again. I'm feeling pretty decent right now for sure. Could be MUCH worse. The only thing that sucks is that to get my dilaudid I have to call a therapist in to pound on my chest and back in order to clear the mucus from my lungs and make me cough like a maniac. but 3mg of dilaudid IV afterwards makes it SO worth it.

Your location says deployed from the rockies, you from Colorado? I went to school in Denver for 4 years, just moved back to Oregon where I grew up.

Are you in Iraq right now?

LOL word to that. *highfive* I went in KU months back and was very reluctant to going, until I got there and found out I was going to be on a morphine pump. you best believe I was pressing that button every 15 minutes! and of course getting oxy scripts. but RIP to those..

Wow man, yeah, you've been all over the Rockies. I hope you know even the crazy liberal academic emo junkies like me really support what you are doing over there and wish you the best. There are no words to truly thank people like you who serve our country in war, and I admire those in the military even more because my medical condition prevents me from joining, so I never had to really think about whether or not I should get involved.

So again, thank you, and be safe.

also, thanks for the well wishes, I'm on the mend fortunately, so I should be outta here in another 4-5 days or so. As for why I'm up late...sleeping in a hospital is damn near impossible. I have my nurse coming in once every hour-hour and a half to hook up some sort of IV meds, nurse's aides coming in ever couple hours to check my vital signs to make sure I'm still alive (and that the dilaudid and shit hasn't shut down my lungs, lol), and lung treatment specialists coming in with inhaled medication in the middle of the night.. so I sleep on and off every couple hours. usually about 20min after I get my dilaudid, lol. But yeah, fortunately for me I grew up thinking of hospitals as normal so they don't bother me, and I can still enjoy myself while I'm here. Like you said, even though its for a shitty reason, I just focus on the good parts: don't have to work, can just chill and play poker, read, write, and watch TV, and I get great drugs. So there ya go.

Later man, all the best to you and everyone else you're with over there.

A question for you: are things getting pretty crazy over there with the move-out deadline and all that? Also, do the drug test you and can you still get a hold of/use opiates while you're there? obviously not while you're on active duty but when you've got downtime or whatever...

    ok enough of this post,

    Peace,

    -V
