fuck.. i could really use some hydromorphone contin down here in the US of A. I'm getting injections of hydromorphone in the hospital right now, but when I go home in 3-5 days I don't know what they are going to do. probably just put me back on OC and percs which is fine but my body is going to seriously miss that buzz.

enjoy your hymorph contin. rest assured, we're jealous.

I will, we'll see what happens. I want to keep my OC script the way it is because I get 60mg in the morning 40mg in the afternoon and 60mg at night. that is such a bomb script that I wouldnt fuck with it for anything. but rather than having 5/325 percs for breakthrough pain I want them to give me something different, I'd love getting some dilaudid or maybe even something else more exotic. who knows. I'll start a new thread when I leave the hospital so I can brag about my new scripts.

yeah man it took me ages to work them up to it but it is wonderful. thanks for the well wishes, I'm definitely feeling better than when I first got to the hospital, but still not well enough to go home, I've got another week here before I leave, and they will start taking me off the IV meds slowly so that will suck ass. but thats ok, hopefully they'll replace them with something else.

i just had surgery last week for a pilonidanl cist. It sucked so bad, i was awake for the "cleaning" of my cist and it was some of the craziest pain i have ever felt and the doctor didnt give me shit while it was going on. lasted about 15 mins. but it felt like hours. Sent me home with 50 perc 5/500. Doc tried to play the "thats the highest dosage he could write" Do you think docs have limitations on what they can write? I wasnt wanting any oc's (would have been kick ass) but at least some 10's

what??? they didnt sedate you and didn't dose you with anything during that procedure? and they only gave you 5/500's? not even 5/325's? I can't believe that, what a jackass. Doctors have no limit on what they can write scripts for. They have "guidelines" but if a patient reports greater than normal pain levels or reports greater than normal tolerance levels, or the patient states that he/she has a bad reaction to a certain medication or does not receive adequate pain relief from a certain medication then the doctor is able to use their judgement on what to prescribe, and how much. Every state has its own health care laws and regulations and they all have their own guidelines but they also all have to follow federal law, and DEA regulation. But, it is possible your doc has been investigated for writing scripts before and that means he has had restrictions placed on him. That is the only reason I can think of for him to actually have a "highest dosage he could write". I started getting my pain scripts from a couple ER docs, then from an on campus doctor at my school (just percs at this point, 7.5/325's, but they worked for my pain then because I had no tolerance) and then I was referred to a pain managment specialist. I told her I didn't want to hurt my liver and she said no problem lets change you to OC 10mg twice a day with 5/325 percs for breakthrough. So then I told her that wasn't working and she upped me to 20mg OC twice a day and 10/325 percs for breakthrough. And from there on it was just a matter of waiting a couple months and saying my tolerance was going up, and by the time I stopped seeing her I was getting 90 20mg OC and 180 10/325 percs per month. All from a couple ER visits and a few visits to a joint doctor.

I say you need to find a new doc if the one you have is this stingy because every doctor has a different idea about how to manage pain and about how often they want to prescribe narcotics.

hey thats what im thinking that its time for a new doc. I was awake because i was supposed to go back to work after and the doc said it would be fine. So im on the table in the OR and he cuts into my back, well first stuck me with a needle 3 or 4 times to "numb" it, so he cuts in and when he see's what has been going on in there he literaly freaked out. The cist has created a baseball size hole in my back, so he had to scrub it out and clean the fucker real good. Now this is the 3rd surgery i have had, and the 6 time it has been drained in a year and a half. The next surgery is supposed to be my finall one, but it is going to be a major one. Im going to be down for a good month or so and i swear if he writes me 5's im going to be pissed. I forgot to tell you this, i called a couple of days after my surgery trying to get something stronger, thats when he said he couldnt write anything else. So he says lets try a different pill and wrote me a script for 50 vikes 5/500 Now im thinking the perks werent working for the pain, so this guys writes me fucking vikes, which i know hydrocodone is weaker than oxycodone, but he says somtimes peoples bodys react to different pills. So on monday i will be calling and saying i at least want the perks. I just cant win with this doc

wow... that is terrible. post-op pain should at least get you 7.5/325 percs. you shouldnt have to deal with 5/500 percs and definately NOT vicodin of any kind. hydrocodone is NOT, I repeat, NOT indicated for post-operative pain, regardless of the seriousness of the operation. that is like prescribing codeine to someone with a protruding tib-fib fracture... in other words, stupid.

if your doc won't write you for it, tell him you want a referral to a pain management doctor who can help you with the pain the operations and the cyst itself has been causing you. he legally can't refuse to refer you. chances are the pain doc will be more sympathetic than your surgeon or whoever he is. especially after your final, more major surgery, you at least need oxycodone IR, (usually they aren't supposed to give you tylenol combos for post-op pain because it suppresses fever which is the first sign of infection which is the major worry after an operation) if not low dose of oxycontin since a major operation of any kind will cause at least a week to two weeks of moderate pain at the operation site and surrounding area.

Good luck man. Best bet, look up possible complications of your condition that could cause pain, and look up your condition and read as much about it as you can so you can argue with your doctor when he says you shouldn't be in pain.

Most people with my condition don't have as bad of pain as mine, but I found a study of people with my condition who had severe pain so when my doc told me he thought my doses were too high and that he didn't understand my diagnosis I referred him to that study and explained that while some people might not have severe pain, mine is both chronic and serious and needs to be treated as such. he listened, and even fought against the clinic manager later on when he tried to cut me off for missing an appointment.

fuck, pain management is the hardest thing ever. good luck with your doc, and if he keeps fucking you over, get a new one.
