So yea the back of my head I have dreads and the rest of my hair is normal. I just got dreads naturally without even trying to. How come this would happen only in the back? And Im thinking of making it all dreads, would I be able to get it done at a hair cutting place(whatever you call them)?

You could get it done at a salon but odds are they would take out the progress you've already made. if you got those ones naturally by not doing anything, why not try it out with the rest of your head? *they may only be in the back of your head because of the way you sleep/ hair dreads different in different places*

sleepin bro.. you sleep on your back and you roll around and your hair dreads itself... i have had a few sets of dreads and both times the back ones locked up first.. and i came up with that conclusion... but if you sleep on your belly.. then you got me stumped dude

I wasnt sure if a barber shop was just a place where they do guys haircuts, and I didnt know if they would do dreads at a barber shop. Ive had my aunt do my hair my whole life so I dont really know.
And my hairs just getting past shoulder length but its much much longer when I straighten it.
And Im pretty sure I sleep on my side. Everyone always says well do you sleep on your back, but Im pretty sure I dont.

I thought I was the only one. I'm pretty much in the same situation the back of my head is fully locked up and then the sides started to come in, now all thats left is the front. Only advice i could offer is, try going to bed with your hair slightly damp that is the only thing I did to my hair and ripping the huge matted sections apart

don't get them done in a salon, just let the rest form naturally too. what kind of shampoo do you use? if you use one without any conditioning agents in it your hair will lock up much faster. just rip apart the matted sections like Ler said so you don't end up with a big uncomfortable mass of hair on the back of your head.

My hair started to knot up on the left side, followed quickly by the back, a bit slower on the right side, and much more slowly in the front. It was a rough couple of years, but they all came together in the end. I usually sleep on my back or left side btw. Patience.

My back started to dread by itself up once my hair got long. Got 5 dreads back there that have never been backcombed
