it isn't a joke guys. I saw this on CNN today. the FDA are seriously considering pulling all drug preparations that contain a narcotic and acetaminophen. Which means they will have to do one of two things: add something different to hydrocodone and oxycodone to create a drug to replace vicodin and percocet, or else totally discontinue combination preparations and ramp up production of roxicodone and create a pure form of hydrocodone... oh man I would love to get my hand on some pills containing pure hydrocodone hcl... I bet it'd be fun to snort. or hydrocodone contin...

I think hydro gets a bad name because it always is prepared with other shit in it. if you could get just plain 5, 10, or 15mg hydrocodone tabs, I bet people would reevaluate its efficacy.

Any changes in the current system will not turn out to benefit recreational users.....

however, they might turn out to benefit the whole system of pain management, especially patients with real acute or chronic pain. the important thing is that this story may draw lawmakers attention to the problem of harmful additives in prescription drugs that kill people, both legitimate and recreational users.

because of the fact that APAP kills indiscriminately (i.e. it does not just kill people who are abusing percs/vikes, but also kills people who are just idiots and take extra strength tylenol and nyquil with their percs/vikes.) I think the FDA is going to have to make a move on this.

I think what will happen is they will try to transition to having a new combination drug made that contains a less harmful addition, something like hydrocodone+ibuprofen (already exisits, but only in 7.5/200 doses, and it is rarely prescribed, so they could push docs to prescribe it more often) or oxycodone+ibuprofen which doesn't exist except in compound pharmacies. they might even try oxy or hydro plus naproxen or some other NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). who knows. All i know is they will not leave us with just the pure forms of the drug. not in the long run anyway.

But there might be a window of time where there is nothing else available, and during that window, docs will have to prescribe the pure form and nothing else.

But seriously, I am crossing my fingers and praying for a pure hydrocodone preparation. that would be awesome. because I like the buzz from hydro at least as much as oxy, but it is so hard to get it because the dose has to be higher and you either have to CWE it or you have to take a chance at acute liver toxicity.

ok, sorry, i'm buzzed of a shot of dilaudid so I need to stop rambling.

they are reducing the use of acetominophen...something that doesn't have a lot of rec value...the hydrocodon and oxycodon and other opiates (where the fun is) are not going anywhere

They ban a lot of things that you can kill yourself with. What kind of world do we live in? We can even kill ourselves anymore. This is bullshit.

Yeah, plus you can kill yourself with oxy or hydro by themselves. you don't strictly NEED the APAP. plus if you kill yourself with oxy or hydro at least you'll feel good for a second before you pass out and never wake up, whereas dying of acute liver toxicity is painful and agonizing and slow.
