I've recently started to move away from dairy, oils, egg, anything thats too acidic. I've so far been doing this by sticking to vegan, low fat meals. It's working well, I feel energized for sure. But I struggle with a the satiety of the meals. The tastes are fine, and i enjoy the rush of energy and clarity...I guess I'm used to the tranquilizing properties that a high fat diet brings. At the moment I've been compensating with nuts, their protein and oil is a strong taste that leaves me quite satisfied...i do fear they might encourage reflux, but if i continue to avoid dairy that might be fine.
it sounds like you are fairly well versed on the "switch." im not a nutritionist, but i have taken a few nutrition classes in college. i suggest a multi-vitamin until you get the hang of getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals from your new diet... also, snack on complex carbohydrates like whole wheat bread or the like. contrary to what doc atkins says, they aren't bad for you. avoid quick fixes like processed sugars and use as little salt as possible.
multi-vitamins are derived from animal. b12 is a vitamin that is sourced only through animals...for example.
vegan diets are unnatural in most peoples opinion, i know that doesn't make it fact...but there are many forms of malnutrition and maybe theres something fulfilling about picking your poison...self empowerment and all that my gf worked as a store manager at a supplement store...there is vegan multi vitamins, including b12
if u count micro-organisms as animals then you are right...how ever your body is full of gut flora, which feeds off your food and eventually dies and then you eat them....so to say you don't eat micro-organisms (including yeasts) is kinda ermmm odd
Sorry gang but avocado is not fat free. I been on basically a vegan fat free diet for many years. Lotsa whole grains, beans, vegies, 4 or 5 times a day. No nuts or seeds cause they contain a lot of fats. Yeah I'm kinda skinny but for 58 still kinda hot. Hey watch out for compensating low fats with lots of fruit. I know may sound somewhat radical but sugar is sugar folks, not a good basis for the diet.
Just because a high-fat diet is bad for you doesn't automatically mean a NON fat diet is good for you. That's poor logic. You NEED SOME fat in your diet. Not necessarily the animal kind, but ALL of our cells are made with small amounts of fat, our brain contains lots of fats, and cutting out fats completely is just as bad as having too much. Fat is one of the 5 basic components of diet--Imagine if you forced a baby to eat a non-fat diet. They would die, or at least be close to it. Your need for fat changes as you get older, yes, but you're still the same species, so why would your need for fat disappear completely? Veganism is one thing, but taking your diet to such other extremes is beyond me. Yes, of course diet is important in health, but seriously if you think you need to ban every single food that's not full of 100% perfect nutrition in order to feel good, you're either a hypochondriac and exaggerating your symptoms, or you're obsessive-compulsive.
On avo: it isn't an added oil. Yes, avocados have fats, and lots of them, but the op is eating nuts and seeds for fat. Avo is a likely addition under that thought.
