Ok, so I can't find out where or how to order some "spores". (FYI my other post wasn't asking someone here to sell it to me, I was hoping for a site recommendation and I think I wasn't sposed to ask that), oops! Anyhoo, I was concerned that, as most of the "spores" ordering sites are overseas, bringing them into Australia would be an issue with customs. I think they would be seized by customs and destroyed. AND I think, I'm not allowed to ask someone to help me find them in fields and the forest. So, can someone tell names of shrooms species? Amanita muscaria seems to be mentioned a lot when I google shrooms. I have seen them growing where I live, but was of the understanding that they were poisonous and would kill you. Even had them growing in the backyard of a place I rent years ago. Just thought they were pretty, but lethal. Psilocybe semilanceata These seem to be a species that grows in my garden. Particularly with the little bump on the top. Any others? (FYI not going to try them, with out heaps of research first- just want to know the names to look up).
First of all, amanita muscaria is not a psilocybin containing mushroom. Its fun in its own right. You can buy those off line if you want them. Second, I don't know if someone shut down your thread, but spores are not illegal in any state. They are 100% legal. Saying you are going to use them for growing mushrooms is illegal though. I am sure that you are interested in studying the spores for one of your mycology classes though. sporebank and spores101 are good sites to go through. I don't recommend eating mushrooms without someone there to identify them. Remember though, most mushrooms wont kill you. LBM (little brown mushrooms) at worst will give you a massive stomach ache and diarrhea. If you eat enough though, they can kill you. Safest way to find out yourself is to eat just 1 mushroom and see what happens. Most of the deadly mushrooms are not LBMs. Even if you did eat one of the deadly amanita strains, you would more than likely have to eat more than a very small mushroom. Be warned though, there are (very few) deadly LBMs. If you live in a place with a lot of mushrooms, I suggest buying an identification guide and learning that way. Either way, this type of thing takes considerable research and I hope you read way more than this thread. Have fun...
Growing mushrooms can be a great hobby. The PF tech is really simple, and I always used the address in the ad for spore syringes in the back of High Times. I haven't seen a High Times in several years, so I don't know if it's still there. But I'm sure erowid or the lycaeum websites can help with this. I would recommend psilocybe cubensis. It's pretty easy to grow, and definitely safe and effective for most peoples. I would definitely NOT recommend picking mushrooms from nature unless you are with an experienced field-hunter from your area. There are field guides available, if you're just determined to do it. But be sure the field guide is written for your area. The thing is, though, that even if you pick the right mushrooms, you still could get sick. Bacteria often want to feed on the same food that the mushroom mycelia (the underground network) want to feed on. If the mycelia have produced a fruiting body, they've probably killed whatever bacteria they might have encountered...BUT many kinds of bacteria produce toxins that the fungus will just absorb into itself and then pass on to you. This is why, if you are growing your own, if you ever see infection in a cake, THROW IT OUT. It doesn't matter if the fungus kills it eventually-- it's not worth the risk. There's just no substitute for good, sterile method.
Amanitas is an odd little experience in its own right, but, as noted, nowhere near a psilocybin experience. Also as noted, most deadly mushies do not look like psilocybes. Death-caps or destroying angels are quite large and white, so no worry of confusing them with the kind you want. Grow your own, that's the trick. But I don't know how to tell you to order spores in Australia though...
Was anyone paying attention to the fact that OP is from Australia and probably has different laws regarding what mushrooms/spores they can possess.
I don't know how any country would go about making the spores illegal. They contain no illegal substances, and are almost indistinguishable from any other syringe of water.
