One you can sleep with when you run out of wimmens,,

    Eh, for warmth, you know,,

I've had a nice female collie in the car with us driving from Cali to NJ and back. Took up a little space, but she was good about it.

Now we have a little Maltese, who LOVES to go for rides with us, surprisingly. He's a feisty little s.o.b. otherwise. It seems to quiet him down sitting on a lap being held.

I've got 2 dogs that are my babies, but the best dog for a roadtrip is no dog. They are really limiting about where you can go/stay/do and they are much more likely to get injured and lost on the road.

That said, I take my dogs on trips all the time because they are such great companions and really love the adventure. I have two small terrier mutts that are great fun, small, and easy to manage. I would just look for a healthy mutt that is friendly. Also, don't get something tiny or too frou-frou or it won't be able to withstand cold, heat, and camping.

    Cheers

On the road, you'll have to stay at motels that take dogs.

In North Carolina, there ARE no motels that take dogs. (It's the law there)

Inspect your dog for ticks. It happens. We found a HUGE, blood swollen tick on our collie, just behind the ear, and stopped into a vet in Albequerque, N.M.. He gently grabbed the sucker and removed it for free, and we were on our way.

We're using a new pill for dogs for fleas. It's called "Comfortis", and it works very well. Just wrap it in a hunk of cheese and down it goes. 15 bucks for a single dose, at most any vet. It's not harmful to the dog in any way.

he is in a westfalia, he wont be needin a motel..

if i was traveling self contained in a camper van i believe i would go with a Great Pyrenees.. they are gentle as lambs yet fierce as lions. of course im partial to them as i own one..lol:p

i would have no problem taking him with me on a extended road trip though..

of course i doubt the OP will read this for a while being this was posted 2 months ago..

    i imagine he already has a dog..

A big fluffy warm one, if you get tired you can lie back on him and use him as a pillow, atleast thats what I used to do when I had a lab, when I was little I went from west virginia to california with her. it doesn't work so well with a little dog.
