Not to sound skanky, but in the last few months of washing my dreads every week, maybe more than that, I've found myself showering less often during the week.. If you know what I mean xD Anyone else get that? I just don't feel I need to shower every day or every other day now lol
I have been "poo free" - for a year or two now, washing with only Baking soda -rinsing with lemon juice every two weeks give or take. Now that I am dreading-or not brushing or whatev you call this- my hair I pretty much do the same thing.
my scalp gets a little itchy after a few weeks of not washing, but all it takes is a rinse under the shower, or a swim and theyre good for a few more weeks. ive never had this problem of keeping my hair dry in the shower. even before i had dreads, i would only wash my hair every week or two. i just put it up in a bun and dont stand under the water. if its summer time and i can swim in the ocean every day, i dont even bother to shower unless the salt buildup starts bothering me.
Ive noticed that a lot of people that I know with dreads for over two or three years just dont wash them. not with water, or soap, or anything. No 'deep cleanses', and they have healthy hair and smell fresh and clean. My guess is, and Ive heard this somewhere else, that their scalp gets used to it and adjusts to accommodate their hairstyle, making it unnecessary to wash (unless some extra variable of filth has been included).
Hmm, I try to wash at least twice a week, just because I like my hair smelling nice, and I do a lot of sports so my dreads will be completely sweated through at least several times a week. I usually get my girlfriend to roll them once they're wet, to help them be tidy for work. Strangely enough, I mostly itch the day after I wash my dreads, and then the itching stops. It'll come back after a week tho.
There are still a lot of dead skin cells shed by the body though that would be getting left in there... there's no getting around dead skin, your body always produces that and I certainly wouldn't want that to stay in my hair. Household dust is 80% dead skin cells just to give you an idea...
