I think I'm concerned because of the fact that in the past week we've had more than 3 earthquakes during night time... I live in a building so you must understand the reason why I'm afraid. Here in Panama we've had no more than 4.0 scaled earthquakes and I dont think I remember feeling any of those.. but the ones we had this week are 6.3 in scale! I know people who live in L.A. or maybe other countries where earthquakes happen more often this is nothing but im scared we're actually hurting earth so much she needs to breathe and that's why she moves.. this sounds kinda silly I guess but I think we should stop constructing so many buildings and stuff that really hurts earth.
The earth's crust in the grand scheme of things is thin like a crisp, though when you go down to our scale it is almost inconcievably thick. There are places where it is thinner, and places where it is thicker, but never places where it is so thin putting buildings ontop of it would have any effect. for an idea of scale, imagine an oak beam 4 feet thick. This represents the earths crust. Now add a layer of varnish to the top. The thickness of that varnish represents the height of the tallest building. Really its so insignificant to have any meaningful effect on the plate below. The real reason for the quakes is plate tectonics. Panama sits right on top of the boundaries between the Cocos, Nazca and Caribbean plates. When the plates are being pushed together, or one forced beneath another it is a certainty that the immense friction will cause rumblings from time to time. The only way that mankind could concievably create an earthquake on the scale that you are referring to would be to tunnel right down miles to an unstable fault and leave a nuke. Not gonna happen. I'm all for constructing less buildings due to the climate effect of so much carbon dioxide released by making concrete, but in this case it has no negative effect with your quakes.
