My parents use kitchen scissors sometimes, but I don't. It would feel weird. I mean, for me, 99% of the times that I had to use scissors was between the age of 7 and 12. And then its like me and scissors went our separate ways. I rarely use them now, and when I do its for stuff like electronics that are in those IMPOSSIBLE to open packages. And its like (this is the point where my highness becomes evident) Scissors: "Oh... its you. I didn't recognize you" Me: "Yeah, its me. I just got a new laptop battery, and I can't open the package." Scissors: "Oh...So how've you been?" Me: "Fine" [Long awkward silence] Me: "Well, I better get goin'. I should probably go ahead and put this in my computer." Scissors: "Alright then, have fun. I'll just be here in the drawer for another 6 months. In the dark. Surrounded by old monopoly pieces, old coupons, and a near solid piece of gum.
i smirk knowingly, i can just hear the conversation! i have 3 pairs of kitchen scissors, they come apart for easy cleaning in the hingey part. red handles are for raw meat (bacon especially) and the other two for everything else (quesadillas would piss me off otherwise) but im just as likely to use a knife depending on the item(s) im cooking and whether theres any available counterspace.
I did not read the whole set of posts. As a chef and someone who works with food on a regular basis I use scissors for preparing food all the time. However, I don't use paper scissors like the ones I keep at my desk, and in the kitchen they are usually called shears. Proper kitchen shears are able to seperate at the hinge, for ease of cleaning. If you like to use shears then I would recomend getting a nice pair at your local kitchen supply store. Good Luck and have fun.
We have scissors at our house specifically for food. I use 'em to cut homemade pizza and sometimes to cut fat off raw chicken before I cook it.
Dude. I just saw you said you cut steak with them.. That's actually pretty awesome. I broke my wrist and then had to have surgery on it and like ever since then I can't cut steak with a knife.. haha. I have to have someone cut it for me. My wrist is too weak and for some reason I'm dumb and can't do it with my other hand. But you know, like I'm thinking the way the muscles work.. I could handle it with scissors! I may invest in some cooking ones.. Your post has inspired me. haha.
i actually have a really nice set up out back. simple with a board some straps and a rope.. even a little pillo
