I agree with everything but the very end.
When you got people like Sarah Palin being taken seriously by a big chunk of the nation.
This country has always been quite prudish, and unfortunately it seems like a large portion of the population will absolutely not let it go.
And another thing is: promiscuity is often not done morally, and is often done for misguided reasons (acting like a slut or player to be cool, having unsafe and selfish attitudes, etc. etc.). Such things will always give some a bad view of promiscuity as whole.
However, it seems much of the population (or at least the ones I would consider sane and rational) are already abandoning such views; the problem is, there is always gonna be a large group or nutty and irrationals.
I do think the sexual climate is and will get better - but it will never be wholly accepted.

I neither buy the Darwinist crap, nor do I think those views are fading.

Prudish they are, but they still boink in the backroom when they think they won't get caught. Look at the political scandals involving sex. Some of those who shout the loudest about morals and virtues are diddling little boys and girls or committing adultery. This, I think, is part of the fallout from repressing sex.

Victorian culture was well known to repress sex and it's best known for a sick pervert named Jack the Ripper. How many American televangelists have been brought down by sex scandals?

I'm not advocating promiscuity, but I do think teaching kids abstinence is a form of parental denial. Kids need to be taught the consequences of their actions and held accountable for those actions. This starts by holding the adults/parents accountable for their actions. Then they can have frank and open discussions about sex instead of leaving it at "Just say no" and getting into a tizzy over seeing Janet Jackson's boob for a microsecond on tv.

I agree completely. The problem is, with people like Sarah Palin actually being taken seriously; how do you get the parents to parent?
