I started to make my San Pedro tea, took about an 18" cutting, cut that in half for easier handling got one piece peeled, cored, and diced. Now I have to stop because my plans have been changed! My question, will the portion already diced up keep for a week in the fridge or would freezing it be better? Keeping it in the freezer may not be as convenient. I put the remaining cutting which happens to be the top cutting in a brown paper bag and put it in the closet. I assume that will be fine that way for at least a week or more, correct? I left a good 7" rooted in the pot that I'm pretty sure will continue to grow. It is pretty awesome to prepare your own substances this way. I know it will be a positive experience just from handling the raw cactus. I'm getting much the same feeling I do when I smoke weed that I have grown myself. Much more connected to the high and respecting of the source.
freeze it most definitely. it will also increase the efficiency of your tea extract because the cell walls burst when the cactus tissue is frozen with water inside. good luck and happy brewing!
Yeah I went ahead and ran it through the blender and then stuck the resulting slop in the freezer. I figured it would keep better that way and the other cutting should be fine until final prep.
Freezing is definitely the way to go even if you haven't been interrupted, so it sounds like everything has turned out for the best. Pedro production is easy but always something of a hassle since it takes all goddamn day. I guess I shouldn't complaint since it is legally obtainable and one of the kings of the psychedelic world.
