Growing mushies in my parent's house?

Well, im 15 and I always wanted to try mushrooms. I read the MMGG, and everything sounds like i can handle it, and i can get all the supplies. The problem, i don't live alone, and theres nowhere in my room to hide a terranium. Im home alone often, and there are some woods behind my house, and im in there all the time. Maybe i could set up in a styrofoam cooler or something?

 

Depends on the kind of climate you live in,
I would stay away from using your parents house, but having them in the woods will be a bit safer for you. Number one and hardest thing is to make sure that your spores don’t get contaminated. Once you get past that, nature does all the work for you.

 

ok, i should be able to hide a half-pint jar in the house until they're ready, but how many do you think i should have? i don't know how often they get contaminated, and i don't want to end up with zero.

 

Allright dude, I'll tell you what I did, because I lived (and still do) with my parents. I tried this last summer, and I used the space under my bed (it was the type that went against the wall, and there was alot of space underneath that was unused).

First of all I had to get all the materials I needed, which was hard because I only had a bike and biking home with 2 bins, and over 50 pounds of materalis in a backpack and in the bins was excruciating.

Once I finally had the time alone to prepare the jars, sterilize them, and innoculate them (which took alot of time, so I was EXTREMELY rushed). I waited a week and what do you know, they all got contaminated (most likely becuase I was extremely rushed when innoculating them).

So I tried it once more when I had a few hours alone, but since I was still rushed, they STILL didnt work and it pissed me off. So much money/time/work invested into it and nothing but contams.


Now about your plan, well its summer right now, so the temp for them being innoculated could work. You'd have to make sure both terrariums are airtight, so when it rains nothing gets in. This may work, this may not, but the only way to know is to try. My advice to you is to not rush any of the procedures, because if you do then you'll just fuck it up like I did. Good luck.

 

Yeah that's the hard part, getting materials in secretly. if anyone knows a good place to order vermiculite and spores, i could get them sent to my friend's house. i might make individual 2 liter terrariums and store them in a cooler in the woods. i have a pot for camping so i can sterilize on the fire, so i have all day instead of doing this right in the kitchen.

 

i am not home until 5. how can i change the air and water them without being home?

BTW You don't water mushrooms man. This sounds like a fucking AWESOME idea! Though highly unlikely.

i dont think your parents house is a good place to cultivate mushrooms for a number of reasons.

just ask around and im sure you could find some.

 

its gonna get found. dont expect to successfully spend 2-3 months growing mushrooms without your pareents figuring out.

sterility is a biggie, but is also overexagerrated it seems. i took a small aifilter and plugged it in in my bathroom for several hours in advance. i then boiled the jars for about 3 hours. about 10 min before innoculation, i sprayed the bathroom with lysol and bathtub cleaners then wiped down the table surface.

when innoculating, i flame-sterilized the needle between each jar using a BUTANE jet lighter. all 11/11 jars have been contam-free for the last month.

 

My parents never found out...but the jars got infected from the rushed sterilization.

If they leave for a few days, clean clean CLEAN!! Sterilize jars and then do everything.

And unless your parents clean your room, you'll be fine (IMHO)

but you know your parents better than i do.

 

well im going to try at least... and in the meantime ill be searching some cow feilds!

Don't produce drugs unless your name is on the lease. You do realize that if you get caught, your parents go to jail, right? Even if they had no idea. All this so you can get high? Don't fucking do it, man.

You owe it to your parents to let them know what you're planning on doing. If they like the idea, maybe they'll help you with it...like a junior mycologist experiment. If they don't, at least it's better than them finding the stuff and knowing you put them in some serious jeopardy without even telling them. Mushrooms are Schedule I...manufacture of a Schedule I drug is a mandatory minimum of 25 years.

Also, there are websites that will sell you absolutely everything you'll need except for the spore syringes, already prepared and guaranteed sterile. But, if you have any love and respect for your parents at all, clue them in on what you're getting into.

 

i have the same problem as you. im a kid living with my parents ive been dying to do them and cant find them to buy anywhere. but the risks are too great for me to jeopardize my parents like that so i figure when the time is right, the shrooms will come to me.
