Hello, I'm going to the beach this summer, but I'm worried about my hair, more specifically, my hair and the sand. What if sand gets in between my hair and my scalp? How do I get it out?
duddee, idk but i'm wondering the same thing and i'm also scared because my dreads are only like a week and a half old, will they fall out if i go swimming in the ocean?
Ive heard nothing but great things about the ocean and dreadlocks. I know that it makes my hair feel super knotty (well, I havent been since getting my new dreadlets) I dont know about you, but my summer is filled with.... dirt. I have helped my dad in his yard, and my grandparents in theirs (about 100 acres...lots of work..) So, each day was full of sweat and dirt. I wash my hair daily with just water, and everything comes out clean. Im sure sand will come out too...
I went to the beach (not the ocean) and got sand all up in my hair. I scratched and scratched, but it took about 2 weeks before I couldn't find any traces of that shit.
yeah the shit gets all up in your scalp. it sucks. but just wash it afterwords, brush the sand out, it won't take longer than a day or two for all the sand to be gone, at least for me.
did rambo rolls down big hills on the beach and got sand everywhere, washed it out with one or two washes
After a month of surfing in Bali I had that much shitty sand on my head it was crazy. Super hard to wash out, i've only stopped finding it a month later
I surf 3 times a week and I the ocean works wonders on dreads. I haven't really had an issue with sand. It gets in their yea.... but it will come out adventually. Last summer I found a piece of seaweed in knotted into a dread. I had to cut that mofo out. It was funky though, I looked a bit like Old Greg Moral of the story..... sand is unavoidable, however give it time and it will come out.
I didn't have any problem w sand in my dreads. Just don't go rolling around in it. The ocean is the best for dreads, enjoy it and don't worry about sand.
dont worry biout nothin except crap thats designed to not come out like wax..that will trap dirt and sand real good but if theres nothing but hair , notrhing will get stuck (except hairligke stuff like fuzz and fur and lilk bits of string ofcourse that become part of dreads) but mud, sand, grass and leaves all come out very easy ive been burried in sand dragged my dreads through the super fine "sugar sand" they have in ocala for miles, and caked my dreads in enough mud to make them 3 times theyre thickness for weeks at a time and 1 or 2 good washings had me clean as can be every time ya know, if you drive through a city the polution you get in your hairs probly 10 timers harder to gert out then sand is..because it can be sticky i dunno bout other cities, but in philly after a week id get a black gunk caked everywhere, kindsa feels like a thin layer of rubber mixed with motor oil id rather have good clean mud any day
SE, are you serious? I'm in NYC, and when I wash my hair I see brown stuff come out with the rinse. I don't wax or anything but now I feel icky thinking about what that brown stuff could be! But ocean is great for your dreads. Don't bother spraying sea salt in it--nothing beats the real thing. Even though sometimes washing with salt water can help sometimes.
yea cities are gross id rather have 10 pounds of mud in my dreadss then city gunk i think part of it is actualy from tires..so much traffic that the air contains enough worn tire particles to leave a film on ya that and the tons of other crap pumped into the air by factories cars and you name it nomatter how muddy ya get in the woods ya never feel ass gross as yiou fdo from city grime
