thats what they are going to do. tax us to death.. about a month ago the state informed us they were putting a freeze on homestead exemptions till further notice which will result in a 50% property tax increase. today we see the county is raising the millage rate which will result in a 20% property tax increase.. thats a 70% increase.. i really dont know what folks are going to do if this keeps up. anyone else getting property tax hikes?
I already live in one of the highest taxed regions in the country. I think we pay like $1650 per year for .7 acres and a 900sf house.
you like the taste of eating shit huh?? fuckers..grrrrrr.. they are having a town hall meeting the 23.. after the major reassessments up last year folks are gonna be none too happy.. something tells me the state patrol is gonna be called in for crowd control AGAIN.. when folks get riled up in this county, things get ugly..lol
you heard anything about a increase this year zoomie? although from what i have read the baltimore area seems to be fairing better than a lot of places through this so maybe their revenue isnt down that much..
It's all part of the Big Robbery Caper sponsored, approved, and perpetuated by the illegitimate civil union of Big Banks and Big Government. The likely aim is to induce a level of need making much of what used to be the middle class totally reliant on the government for everything from food and shelter to health care... and in return for the "benevolence" offered by the criminal entity, civilians will be duty bound to participate in governmental capers overseas as well as home. We all can kiss the illusion of freedom goodbye.
Yeah I live in the county on the southern edge of Baltimore and the political demographics are really fucked up. The poor, working class who are packed together in little boxes up here in north county and kept here by economic policy are mostly right wing assholes with their lips attached to Sarah Palin's left teat. The rich people in south county with their acreage and their McMansions and their yachts and horses are all left wing liberal Episcopalians. It makes absolutely no sense to me, but we pay higher tax on a post WWII tract home than people in south county with 4000sf and three outbuildings. Gotta have something to do with corn subsidy...
Even here in Missouri the property taxes are going up, so is fuel taxes, taxes on utilities ect. Seems like a way for them to make up for slumpy sales tax collections due to lack of sales.
everyone pays taxes in some shape form or fashion. some just pay more than others.. when you find a way to avoid paying property taxes as a homeowner, you be sure and let me know..
I have potential good news for you it May in fact be less than 70% based on how they calculate it. 100-50 = 50 20% of 50 is, happily enough not 20 it is 10, so, 100. +50% +20% would be 160 instead of 170 Now, if it truly is an additional 20% on top of the original 50% then, yeah, that shit sucks. but. I tried. And I'm pretty sure if the home were owned by a corporation (not you) and leased to you that would be a good place to start. although I'm not certain that would work, I do think that would be the direction to start looking in just from my lay understanding of taxes
well i am just going by what the newspaper said on both accounts. the millage rate increase seems pretty cut and dry. im not real sure about the homestead exemption.. i suppose i could pull out last years tax bill and see exactly how much that is going to amount to but it would just be too depressing..lol it just pisses me off that when times get tough we are expected to make cuts and do without and if it still isnt enough oh well, but the government just taxes us more..
on the up side your local government is being responsible. the federal government's policy of just pretending that the fed is an open piggy bank and inflating us to fuck and back is not tenable. each dollar printed anew is a backdoor tax, because it affects the value of stuff, and if the GDP were expanding at a rate greater than inflation, that'd be great, but it can't. we're just digging our own pit. but, yeah, taxes suck man. I hope you are at least on a piece of land with a minimal value.
lol it had minimal (assessed) value till they reassessed it last year for the first time since 1994.. i cant complain about the valuation, its fair market (or close) even in this economy. its just frustrating that as things get tougher and tougher, they want more and more from the average joe. i have friends who are struggling to pay mortgage payments,i have no idea how they are going to come up with the extra cash for property taxes.
you do have to think some municipalities are thinking that they will get people evicted, see most of them move out of their district (less people using services) more people who are "TRULY in need" (federal money for municipality) and lots of cheap land for an influx of new homeowners (taxpayers) who don't know what the property values fairly are. urban renewal the hard way.
