I've known people that have decided to cut off all of their dreads that have saved them and used them as extensions later when they decide to re-dread their hair. I think its fucking ingenious. I have a friend with dreads to his lower back that the majority of his dreads are his best friend's dreads that he left to him when he died and he used as extensions.
Yeh I was thinking about that sort of stuff today. If I ever did have to shave all my hair off for some reason, I would definitely keep the dreads and stick 'em back on when I had a bit of regrowth. And then I was wondering about harvesting dreads from the middle back area of your head, or just getting random locks of hair from friends. Yeh.. lol
Only just saw this. I 100% lol at the concept of allowing anyone to put my appearance before my skillz. What the hell have blacks and gays been fighting for equal rights for, if some skin doodles are considered to impede one's phone-answering (you said office) abilities? haha What a fucking joke. I got fired from a video store (Blockbuster), where I had been working for 4 years, when I dyed my hair pink. A video store selling porn, rape and murder as "entertainment", where nearly every customer smiled upon seeing my pink hair and complimented me on it, kids loved it; also my boss was gay and epileptic, and my co-worker was smelly and unhygienic and always slacking off work conducting an affair with the lady in next door's shop. No place for pink hair there though. When I applied for work at a bookshop (Waterstone's, where I was for 3 years before moving to Norway), they didn't believe me when I said I was fired for dying my hair pink and phoned my ex-boss to check, because they thought it was ridiculous. Sorry, kinda went off on one there. The healing stuff you mention...yeh probably an inconvenience, but obviously not the end of the world, otherwise there would be no scalp tattoos. Next?
sidecut tattoos are f-ing gorge, I posted this one on the tattoo insparation thread but have to post it again as it's just so beautiful. can't wait to see it amy <3
I'm totally with you Amy. Before you bite my other head off, let me just say I'm a dreaded, Tatooed(on my hand) and Pierced Art teacher at a Public Middle school. I know you think I'm trying to be all 'don't do it,' but believe me, I'm not. Good for you for putting skills over image. The more of us freaks there are, the more the vanilla people have to come to terms with their own dullness. I was only trying to say that you should really think seriously about the response from the dullards in charge. If you can take it, great. I was just trying to help. My mistake....
I am sure working at a public school, they don't really care what you look like since it is difficult to get teachers to teach in public even more so at inner-city public schools. I went to an arts and drama driven public high school and there weren't any wildy dressed teachers but there definitely were some not-so-right in the head ones. Amy, have you gotten any tattoos in progress right now? I know you are working on getting a large piece(?) I like the side-cut tattoo since it is sneaky but still there, a little mysterious
i never had a problem with jobs, now i'm fairly tame but i used to have piercings all over my face and neck and everywhere else and hair black at the ends and a different color at the roots every month pink yellow green purple and dressed like a bela logusi movie character. i just always toned it down at the interviews then let it lose again after a few months of being hired. the company i've been working for for the last 10 years went under (i do home healthcare for developmentaly disabled people my position is called independant living facilitator) and i had to go with a new company but there was no problem with my dreads can't really tone those down for an interview especially in 100F + heat hats aren't an option lol gretaota just because you had some bad or wierd experiences in your school or in your experiences doesn't mean the nation or the world is filled with degenerate teachers
I didn't say that at all. All I was pointing out is how the Public School System is not exactly picky when filling their positions for teaching. I had some really great teachers as well as really great coaches and I wouldn't change going to my high school either. I just want to say that if you were working in a private school or a catholic school then I'd be a lot more surprised by the fact that they'd allow you(or hire you) with dreads, tattoos, and piercings. Man people sure do twist things around here.
I prefer working in the public school. I worked at a boarding school for a year, tattoos and all. Commence with the shock.
I didn't say it was impossible. You are probably a really great teacher which is why you are/were hired.
Unless they think you are being facetious and sarcastic, then they will be sad, and you will get nowhere.
Hehe, well I attended a boarding school for nearly a decade...if they'll let evil matron man-women work there, I suppose it figures that freaks are welcome too lol
I've cut four dreads off. It was fun. Now I've gotta decide which dreads get extended and dick around with that. Coolo
