A friend of mine is contemplating growing some poppies in his yard. He's also thinking about making some tea with a few of the bulbs. He read about it on Erowid. I have no recreational experience with opiates, but you know how it's hyped. So, I have two questions: 1. Will this even be worth doing for him? I mean, he likes the flowers, so is it worth snipping some just to do this once every month or two? 2. How likely is he (being a relatively sane person with no unusual tendencies to get addicted) to just get hooked on the stuff, go through his whole garden's worth in a day or two and then start walking the streets looking for an angry fix? Thanks in advance. He's a bit worried, but he's curious about it. I don't know what to tell him.
If he makes a tea with the pods, it will probably be worth it. They aren't really all that difficult to grow, from what I hear they pretty much grow themselves. So, really whats he got to lose? The tea you make from poppy pods isn't going to be very strong unless you use a whole bunch of it, but most people say it feels like a mild-moderate opiate high, with effects 3-4hours or so. From what I've seen, very few people get the nod on the tea (meaning, for experienced opiophiles- its not very strong), so the chance of him fiending out after making a couple batches of PPT are quite slim... I'd tell him to go for it, would be cool to grow some poppies- then harvest them and get a good buzz
I agree with Chad on this one. And really, you have to think: what's the worst that can happen? If you decide it wasn't worth it, you wasted a few bucks and minimal time planting/watering the flowers. I'd say go for it, what have you got to lose?
Thanks, Sunburst. I guess his main concern was just getting addicted. Apparently, you can just buy dried pods or bulk seeds over the internet and that's all legal as long as you're using the pods for decorative purposes or the seeds for baking. He might just do that to save the trouble of planting and having to explain the headless stems in his garden.
