Is it worth it to get rid of the rest of a broken rear projection t.v. to get the fresnel? are there other useful bits? thank you.
I used to get fresnels from working with traffic signal heads. Some of them are what are called "programmable", meaning that by applying a piece of aluminum tape, you can adjust just which cars are going to see the signal, and which are not. These heads, made by the 3M company, had a square of plastic about 16" or so on a side that were fresnels. They were ideal for starting fires while camping, if the sun was out. They were typically thrown away when the signal got hit by a car and was replaced. You could get three out of each head. Normally, these were used in the left-turn pockets.
I Think The Answer Here Is Obvious.. If A Small Fresnel Lens Is Capable Of Starting A Little Fire, Then It Stands To Reason That The Big One Will Start A BIG Fire, Something Along The Lines Of the Californian Wildfires Of A Few Months Ago. Don't Throw It Out, It Sounds Like A "Pyromaniac's Wet Dream"... Cheers Glen.
the size of the fresnel lens. the bigger it is the lower the quality of materials has to be. because the higher the temperature is per other conditions (day can be more cloudy than it could be with a small fresnel lens, on a clear day, the focused light is MUCH hotter)
ah okay...without the subject in the post is read somewhat.... hmm yeah , nm. The lens wont affect the size of the fire though. Once the fire is going its about th....nm.
