They potentially can see everything if they so wish.
You can put some privacy setting on your system though.

    Hi,

ages ago I had enough time on my hands to hack tools to fish jpeg images out of network streams. Very instructive, very interesting prey. Ah, auld lang syne.

hmm, He's in OZ though. So if youre just on the same 3G provider you have nothing to worry about.

You are typing about that, right ?

Okay, this is my first time on a wireless network. I have windows vista. I don't know if this is a new thing but the way it works is that people on the network designate "public" folders that can be accessed by anybody, whereas other folders on the system are off limits. As for my browsing habits, can they see that? Can they see what I am doing right now?

    Hi,

whoohoo, you shouldn't see such things ;-).

Well, I can't say anything about mickeysoft products, but in general you should not provide any resources like shares or printers if you are on a public network. And you should use some of the better encryption schemes available for wifi. Be aware that after the wifi access point your traffic might be readable again.

    Regards
    Gyro

A dedicated hacker could look at EVERYTHING...but, the chances are your neighbours won't be on a fishing expedition. So, you'll be ok.
If you are worried, and it is always a good thing to do...apply a encryption code and password on your wireless system itself.

Note also that on HipForums, there is a subsection called "News and Issues", under which is a "Computers and the Internet" forum, which is a described as a place to "Discuss issues relating to Computer Technology and The Internet".

I've gotten some very good help there, concerning IT, OS, and other tech issues.

Concerned that they may discover certain artistic websites the majority of society would frown upon?

    Everything if they're computer savvy.

But I wouldn't be worried about them discovering browsing habits, but more about them installing a key logger and stealing all your credit card information and such.

But, they're probably not that computer savvy.
